PS3 Sales Gets Lower Still

Well, the PS3 sales are pretty low it has to be said...

maybe its rather scarce games line-up and of course the price is slowly killing it

saying that with multiple price drops and some awesome games coming out in the future not forgetting Home sale will go up but I doubt for a good couple of months yet :(

if anything they should've waited until Septemeber this year to release it :p

Leaked units sales reportedly gathered by Chart Track, have revealed that Wii outsold PS3 by around 8,000 units last week.

According to the figures, on its third week on sale in UK the PS3 sold 17,000 units with ample stock in stores, while Wii, which is still suffering from shortages, sold 25,000 units.

A Chart Track rep refused to comment on the figures, while Nintendo UK were unavailable for comment at the time of writing.

But it's safe to presume that Nintendo will be pleased with these figures, which mark a significant victory for the company in the face of the PS3's launch period.

They need to either reduce the PRice or bring out the 20Gb Version to drive up sales, if I brought the PS3 I'd be getting alot of features I don't need or want.

Its pretty obvious that they have sold what they can straight away - but remember there were around 220K ps3's compared to the Wii's 100k+ - (but where's the rest now? my pals still waiting for his pre-order) and the 360's 70K at lauch. I remember having only PGR3 and COD2 till Feb/Mar when the big boys came out to play - all the rest where NFS MW etc which i played on the Xbox/PS2. At least the ps3 came with decent 360 ports, Res FOM, F1, Motorstorm VF5 and VT3 at launch.

Why September?

I mean there are some good games due out the likes of Liar, Heavenly Sword before September - and having played the Armoured Core 4 demo thats a must for me aswell.

But meh - i like getting a launch console or the first model as when time goes on less and less parts are included or they find cheaper ways to make a console - that's why MS now make a pre-shipping profit of $75 on every 360

and yes I love my PS3 Lens. but marketing wise if Sony couldn't be arsed to release the PS3 before Crimbo in Europe then they were always going to suffer by releaseing it post-christmas

but as Thornbag said come this Christmas the price will be so low on eBay that the local tramp will be playing Heavenly Sword come Dec. 25th :p

Yep i agree they should have made it a worldwide release in November - but i would not have bought one then anywho's. You cant say that about the 360 though, you would've rather gotten a later model where it didnt have all the problems.

Or my 360 which hasnt failed me at all :D

It's not that I think it's crap, it's just that it's not a killer feature/app. It certainly won't be the focus of an ad campaign, or at least, not a successful one.

Yea but it's got a different interface and style to online gaming and community that might not appeal to the Hardcore Gamer but more to the Casual Gamer. Take Mii's for instant, then pieces of crap have casual gamers fiddling with them constantly.

I know for a fact as well that my Sister would prefer that style of interaction than Live.

The ps3 is infact a multimedia console - but it doesnt force you to use its browser or install linux - its just that little bit user friendly with those that like to experiment with their consoles.

Yea but you can't uninstall them can you? So in fact Microsoft is doing nothing less that Sony is doing...It's not making you use MSN as far as I am aware it's an option of which like the Browser on the PS3 you can chose to use.

Remember PS3 is the only Console out there, than you can run a Computer Operating System on, out of the Box.

yep you can uninstall, re-install what ever OS you like - but im just sticking with the default - i dont have nor see a reason to go on Linux or Fedora.

perosnally, i think the PS3 will start selling more when games like Tekken 6 and Metal Gear are released on it, as people will recognise the series and maybe start to think more seriously about getting one.

Thats just it without Crimbo to boost it sales and no REALLY good games its always gona have low sales...

but come September we'll have MGS4, Lair, Heavenly Sword and Warhawk which just looks awesome

That's not goin' to happen.. They just basically discontinued the 20GB PS3 in America. I think it's a very stupid move - I would've considered buying the 20GB, but there's no way in hell I'm paying $600.

Fiddling with them, but Mii's aren't why casual gamers bought a Wii. They bought it for more compelling, global reasons, like not having a lot of confusing buttons and triggers and sticks that all need to be coordinated, and for a focus on games thats more about Wii Sports instead of BioShock.

I'm not saying people won't enjoy Home, I'm just saying I'd be shocked if Home was the reason somebody bought a PS3 instead of another console, or instead of no console at all.

Well, no, but there's no way Microsoft is going to force you to use the 360's MSN messenger. It's just a little something for those that want to chat from their consoles.

What you seem to be saying, if I can interpret you a bit, is you don't like how Microsoft is shoehorning its unrelated products and services into the 360, sort of like how Windows ships with IE and how there were complaints about unfair monopoly with that. That's a fair point, even if it doesn't have any real practical consequences, you're just taking a stand out of principle. I understand that, and to some degree I can respect that.

Except to say, there's no way you cannot buy a Blu-Ray player if you buy a PS3. ;).
