Xbox Live is a very good online service

PSN is ok, once Home is released it will be a lot better

as for reliability, well I can easily say the PS3 wins that one

I had three 360's myself and the failure rate of the PS3 is a lot less than the 360

ALTHOUGH newer 360's are better built than release consoles but even now the PS3 takes it!

Flame War sense...Tingling... Anyhow...
As Vamp said, PSN is ok, not as good as Xbox live, will be much better when there is more stuff in the PlayStation Store, Home is released and developers learn how to use it. PS3 is very reliable, mine hasn't broken yet but I have only had it a short while, but you rarely here complaints about it. I think if you have the money, you should get yourself one it is a lot of fun.

oh yes and as Mr 11 said its super silent

as much as I loved the 360 it did sound like a hairdryer at times :p

again taking NOTHING from the 360, it is a great console but SO IS the PS3 let us not forget!

I'd read up on exactly what Home is before taking it as a major benefit. Personally, I'd view it as at best a nice little distraction, but it certainly isn't big enough to factor into a decision on the console.

The truth is, the PS3's online is, well. Less than ideal. And it's only sorta 'free'. Remember, the PS3 costs a lot more than the 360. So if you aren't going to use it as a Bluray player, you pretty much pay for the online service all at once, the first day. (If you do expect to get into Blu-Ray, then you can consider the difference in price between the 360 and the PS3 to be paying for the Blu-Ray capability, and then the online service is free.)

Moreover, Sony has hinted that it expects some publishers to charge on a game by game basis for online play. No one has yet come forward to announce that for their own game, but it's hard to imagine it won't ever happen.

And, of course, the un-unified friends list and messaging will probably be a big shock for anyone who is used to XBL. Brace yourself for something closer to the PS2's online service than you'd otherwise expect.

As for reliable, that's a difficult question to answer. But, it certainly seems that apart from a few stories, http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/18/ps3-is-following-in-360s-footsteps/ , there is much less clamor about failing PS3s. (Of course, I have a launch 360 that hasn't presented any problems.) What's more, MS seems to be making great strides in its warranty programs. I'm not sure what Sony's warranty policy is like at the moment. But if you're one of the unlucky ones with multiple 360 failures, the PS3 will probably make you feel a lot more comfortable.

If reliability is a big concern because of that, I'd consider the Wii. It's individual parts and components are much more common place, and tested, and reliable.

yup if youre getting it for the Blu-Ray then you need to also consider how much the 360 is plus a HD-DVD player

and online is FREE anyways you don't have to pay out anything EXTRA, Blaze might be right with saying its added into the full price, but its free all the same

and yes some Publishers will charge, let us not forget some Publishers charge extra for the 360 games which you failed to mention :D

but BOTH consoles have huge pros and HUGE CON's so choose wisely

The only games that charge extra for the 360 are (cross-platform) MMOs, which are par for the course. I'm not talking about MMOs. Especially since you could still pay for the privilege to play PSU if you were on Silver, without having to first get Gold..

yup and again its going to mainly be the MMO publishers who will be charging, so again the PS3 is in the same boat as the 360!

Once again, I'm not talking about MMOs, for either the 360 or the PS3. Some of the more popular, non-MMO games on the PS3 probably will be charged on a game by game basis.

any chance you can source that one, wouldn't mind reading up on it as it sounds fishy!?

To enable these Online Services considering the Servers are controlled by the Publisher they will probably use the same financial method as they do on PC Platform.

Bar MMO I can't see any platform putting up a separate charge for individual games whether or not they are Free Services or Paid like Xbox Live.

The only thing I would worry about is like what EA does on there Servers where they cut support for a title meaning getting online is basically a pain in the ass.

There's a video clip of an interview with Harrison. Haven't been able to locate it again, can't figure out what Google needs to hear in order to find it. Nevertheless, I promise you, I myself did personally see and hear everything in the clip, this isn't some hearsay in the halls of a school.

There are both positives and negatives for every console but it all depends on what you are looking for really. I bought the PS3 as I read more and more about it and liked what I was reading. Also I've had other Sony platforms released before (PS1, PS2 & Psp) and I liked them. There was no game apart from Resistance Fall Of Man that I wanted for launch but I've found it to be a good console so far.

Ok Xbox Live is better than the free PSN but you get what you pay for with XBL. I like the fact that there are a lot of things that I already had that work with the PS3, saving me from buying them over again. Bluetooth headset, singstar microphones (you can actually use them for voice chats :)), eyetoy camera, memory cards and usb sticks. Shop around though, there are some good deals out there. I'm happy enough though sticking with the 360 & the PS3 since there are games coming out on both platforms that I want.
