If your still doing your course you still get EMA, I do believe there's a grant which, when 19, allows you between £600-£1500. Well, I was on my A lvl ICT course. I think it's called an ALG.

It's hilarious when people complain about EMA. Because there always the ones who don't get it.

EMA is a good thing for kids. Means they have no excused to by stuff for college work. Besides if they were not at college they would just be on the dole getting more of your tax money like me. AND I ----ING LOVES IT :D

This must have come in just after i left education. I got free money at uni, but i have to pay it back, and that time is now as im earning enough. (they take a % of wages over a certain amount earned).

Do you have to pay this EMA back?
If not, why not?

phatmuther
02/Apr/07, 06:11 PM
Ha! Its a crap system since most of the money that gets given out is to scum, and what do you think it gets spent on? Hmm let me think, drugs. Wow, what a great system!

Truplayer, its a completely different thing, what you got and I'm getting is a student load, only available to people at Uni, EMA is basically paying the kids to go to school.

Truplaya83
02/Apr/07, 06:16 PM
OMG! Paying kids to go to school? Thats insane, if they want to be a waster then let them, but dont pay them for it!

Sean
02/Apr/07, 06:36 PM
Yes but they have to attend everyday or they don't get the money for that week and if the lecturer thinks the kid hasn't done well enough they sign a document and the kid gets nothing.

When I was in college, if I didn't hand in my assignment on time I'd get no EMA :(

Fair enough the kids are just spending it on drugs and whatnot but if they're going to college and doing what's required to get the qualification then it benifits the rest of county when they're working full-time and have qualified jobs.

It has nothing to do with the Teacher whether or not you are entitled for it, they just sign it every lesson to say you were in. It's totally based on your Parent's Income and I agree these lads were getting more than me a week at school and I wasn't entitled to nothing, however you can hardly complain if you do work....As you only have to pay NI and don't get Taxed and if you do.

You can claim it all back, I did it when I was working in the Summer Holidays a few years back. I was making a tidy sum :D

I get Ema, so thanks Thornbag for calling my Mum a lazy ----er who wont support her kid (Y)

Anyway enough of that ----, Ema IS a good thing, and I know i've probably got a biased opinion as I get it, but the people who don't get it will most probably also have a biased opinion, for example Thornbags opinion of my lazy ----er of a mum.
Theres some 18 year old lad on my college course who has no parents, never asked him why, dont really want to, and his Ema helps him towards keeping his flat, like paying his water bill, TV license whatever. Without Ema he'd be ----ed having only his Job to support which he has told me isn't enough.

Yes there should be money for people like that, no home etc...

But i didnt get paid for going to school, nor did i get money from parents.

School is free, only meals cost anything, and you could bring in packed lunches at my school.

What is the money for? Books - free, no tuition fees, bus pass - free for school kids.

What do most kids use the money on? Computer games, junk food and drugs. This is my problem with it.

nothing, other than the fact the probably couldnt keep it, and then they would probably just spend the extra money on more drugs anyway, i ----ing hate chavs.

Outlaw

phatmuther
03/Apr/07, 05:20 PM
Outlaw, fantastic if you actually spend the money of college and whatnot, and that your mum isnt "lazy". But you cant tell me that 90% of the people that get this arn't chav's and dont spend it all on drugs. I cant believe the government suply kids with drugs, because thats what they are doing. Its great that it helps people like you, but they should really filter out the kids that are abusing it.

Outlaw
03/Apr/07, 05:23 PM
I agree with what your saying Phat, only problem is there is no way of determining if someone is going to spend it on drugs, only way to stop that would be to stop Ema all together, but then that woudl affect people who are using it Legit

If there was a way of not giving it to druggies and whatnot then i'd be all for it

phatmuther
03/Apr/07, 05:28 PM
Well they should stop it then, I got through college fine, my parents arn't rich, I had to pay for the bus everyday, I had to buy supplies and food without any pocket money from the government. As did many other people, we all got through. The druggies? well there in McDonalds working thier way up where they belong (well not really, they belong in prison, but there overcrowded as it is)

Outlaw
03/Apr/07, 05:46 PM
and thats exactly why you want it stopped because you never had it, if you had of recieved it i bet it would of been a much different story, notice the only people complaining are people who dont get it or never lol

phatmuther
03/Apr/07, 05:50 PM
And you expect it to be any different? People getting free money are never gonna say stop giving it to me, and people that never got it are always gonna feel that they got along fine without it, why should you get it. Thats how it will always be.

Same story with me. When I was at Uni, I got sweet FA from the state cause of my Dads earnings. I had to go out and get a part time job to help support myself cause my parents don't believe in giving hand outs when you can support yourself. Of course they did help out by letting me live at home free.

These days I'm still getting sweet FA from the state while others (not meaning anyone on here - just in general) seem happy to scrounge every penny they can. Exactly where is the incentive to get a job when you can "earn" far more by staying on the dole and claiming every benefit and allowance going.

*now pissed off for the rest of the day* :@

When I said 'Fair enough' I meant that what the person said about them spending it on drugs was a fair opinion, not that it's fair enough for the person buying the drugs using their EMA. People using the governments money which is their to help them not kill them should be shot anyway.

Apologies, was going slightly off topic and refering to the people that just leech off the state. The people who make a good bloody living from -effectively- stealing tax payers money. It's the people that milk the system that piss me off.

For example, we recently had a new guy at work on a placement through the job centre. Fair enough that's what the job centre do and it can be succesful for both parties involved. Anyway, this was the first job this guy had ever been to, at the ----ing age of 50. Supposedly the jobcentre or whoever had finally threatened to stop his hand outs if he didn't even at least try to get a job. Not bad after 30 odd years of living for ---- all.

It's these people that make a career out of living on hand outs etc that piss me (and hopefully every other tax payer) off, not the people getting support to train at college or uni.
