View Full Version : Thinking about getting a PS3, Trade in 360?

Firstly, i have a 360, i like it, although i havent played it for over a month. There are not really any games i like atm out, the only game im looking forward to is Mass Effect and thats about it. Im thinking about getting a PS3, by trading in my xbox 360 and the few games i have to get a Ps3 for about £250 with resistance and motorstorm. And now that MS have just announced the 360 Elite, im even more angry with them, the fact that i cant get HDMI and would have to spend loads of a 120gb hardrive etc as i would like these things.

Some things that are appealing to me about the ps3 are:

Blu Ray - not the films but the fact that they can hold more, i no that the game Mass Effect really struggled to fit onto the Disc and they have had to cut some things out and compress a load of stuff, this makes me think that the PS3 is more futureproof, being able to have much bigger games.

HDMI: Well i no its got a slight better picture of componment, but the fact i would have to spend another 300+ on a 360 elite to get it on my 360 annoys me.

Games: I no the 360 and Ps3 are both getting GTA:IV, but theres nothing else good on the 360 that i want, Halo 3 dosent appeal to me as i found halo 1/2 boring and overated (dont start flaming me please) Other than that there should be some interesting games coming out on the Ps3, Killzone 2 for example and a few others. I no the 360 has a slight 10-20% advantage in the GPU department but the Ps3 makes up for it elsewhere, all 360 games suffer from slowdown, sometimes quite severely and the PS3 games i played round my mates none of them had any! Also 360 gaming is closely linked with PC gaming, with games like bio shock and stuff, but that means that i can get these games for PC and most probably run them better with my 8800 and C2D, where as Sony Exclusive games like MGS4 tend to stay on the PS.

Anyway do you think judging from the points ive made, i should just go ahead and trade it in? Or Stick with it and not get a PS3 (i cant get both btw).

So if you want HDMI that bad, maybe you should re-read the press releases........they're releasing a HDMI cable accessory so any Xbox users can buy it, same with the HDD.

And if you can afford Core 2 Duo's and 8800's then you can afford a PS3 without selling your 360 I'm sure.

I hadnt heard that either :brow:

But anywho, if you want a PS3, get one, simple as.

But if your gonna trade in you 360 and then spend an extra £200, well, you'd be better off spending that £200 on 360 stuff, maybe even REAL LIFE (yes I know, its hard accepting real life) things, like a holiday or something.

Fraid I dont, I will buy one when I can get it c-c-c-c-c-c-cheeeeeeap, at the moment I could pick one up for around £380ish. So when a price drop comes in, i'll consider it. But I wouldn't trade my 360 for it, love it too much, plus they'll rip you off. I bet I could trade my 360 and Wii in and it wouldn't cover a PS3.

yeah, i downloaded the game trade in price guide, and you get £180 for the 360, plus i would get an extra 40 for my current games.

Do it! Not to sound like a fanboy or anything(I am not!) but I much prefer the PS3 to the 360.

Do you get 'entitlements' as they are on the PS3, then?
It's just I don't see a score on your card?
It won't bother me, just interedted.

Thought you hated the PS3.

Edit: No, there is no entitlements, the card isn't Sony, I got it from a westie where you can build your own. It takes you to the site if you click it(Y)

As I have said before, Buy a PS3 but heck dont trade in your 360 for it, You'll regret it.

As an owner of both i wouldnt like to choose to get rid of either to be honest.
They both have there plus points and negative points.

If you can afford best of both worlds then definatley go for it. If you can't/dont want to id find it difficult at the moment to advise. The 360 has a big portfolio og good games coming this year , although as you say they may not be your cuppa. The PS3 is going to be fairly quiet until at the earliest xmas , just as the 360 was when it launched.

But if you like your driving games , Motorstorm , F1 , RR7 and GTHD make the PS3 the place to be at the moment..........until Forza2 hits in May that is.

Sorry i couldnt be much more help. You have to look at the games available , and due in the next 9 months , and decide how important online play is to you. You should have your answer then.

Yeah there are links but that's for the Monster news guys to be finding.

MS have said that they don't want to force anybody to buy an Elite...so all the plus points of the Elite will be available as accessories so they can be bought by everyone (120 HDD, HDMI cable, Black controllers, Battery packs etc....the case, well maybe not that!). MS also stated that anyone buying an Elite (not confirmed for standalone 120 HDD) and wanting to transfer their saves can ring MS for a free ' migration cable' to copy their ----. Not all rosey there though, MS advised people in US to use 2 HDD's...1 for games etc. and 1 for films...BUT...you can only transfer 1 20gb HDD to the 120, if you try a second transfer it'll overwrite the first :s also you cannot transfer any data from 120 HDD back to a 20....so no higher capacity backups :s

:)

Well online isnt too important to me, thats what i have my PC for with BF2142 etc. And alot of games coming out this year on 360 are coming out on PC which i can get cheaper (cough*free*cough), and the PS3 exlucsives like MGS4 wont be coming to PC or 360 (well i dont think it will come to 360)

I suppose ill go round my mates, have a good on resistance and motorstorm and make up my mind.

I don't really want to say much on this thread, other than trying to dispel the myth that HDMI is inherently better. It isn't. No need to get your pants in a twist over it.

snip

Yeh I know all about the HDD and transfer etc but I am really sure Core and Premium users are not getting a HDMI adapter because it's not possible with the current chip.

If you are really sure though please post a link to a source.

Q: Will we be able to buy the new Elite accessories separately?
Mike Newey: Absolutely. Offering Xbox 360 owners the choice to upgrade and customise their console in whichever way they want is very important to us, so we will be making all of the Elite accessories available separately. The 120 GB hard drive, the black Wireless Controller, the black Headset and the Xbox 360 HDMI cable will all be available for sale separately in the US from April 29, and we’ll be announcing European launch dates for these accessories as soon as we can.

Could be just a miscommunication though.

Humm well then I guess I have no need to buy a Elite. Didn't really have one anyway lol

Yeah that's the guy...I would've posted it had I just read it but it was this morning and I CBA trawling for it.

MS have said all along the Multi out can carry digital signals so can do HDMI and they would release a HDMI cable when the timing was right...which appears to be now(ish)..or probably a few months later for us.

Problem is that guy's just a suit. Remember when the Wii's controller was rechargeable?

Ozy clears it up for us:
"

Re: "Will there be an HDMI cable released for us early adopters? If not that kinda sucks. Also, can one buy the new bigger HD?"

Unfortunately there will not be an HDMI adapter released for the original 360. The HDMI spec is basically a 2-way street and requires the specific port on both sides to be enabled. This is why we had to change the box.

Yes, we did announce that you'll be able to buy the bigger HD for $179 at retail."

I myself am getting rid of the 360 (this time I acturally might) as the PS3 is my sorta console, But in the end the games are what making me go to it and it will also cut the time down on the console if I do get it (Achivments to dam addictive ¬_¬).

I have only got the Premium with recharge battery added and 5 oldish game though I do got THP8. What do you think you I should ask for it ?
