4 days from Launch and already retailers are dropping the price, is this a sign of things to come or the opportunity of a life time to ship a few extra. I say lifetime I mean some press coverage....Enjoy!

Aria slashes price for limited time only

Just days after the European launch of PlayStation 3, UK retailer Aria.co.uk has slashed the price of the console to under GBP 400 - more than GBP 25 below the recommended retail price.

The 60GB PS3 launched in Europe last Friday with an official RRP of GBP 425 / EUR 599. However, it's now available on Aria's website (http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Gaming/+Sony+PlayStation+3+Console?productId=26741) for GBP 340.38 excluding VAT, or GBP 399.95 inclusive.

Looks like Aria bit off more than it can chew and like everyone else underestimated demand.

lol - people aren't buying it because it costs too much - dropping the price is the only way to get sales I guess...and I bet more people start buying it.

If it had been priced under £350 they would have sold a lot more, as it is at present the price will scare a lot more people off. Also if you view the 360 and PS3 titles at present the 360 wins by a mile. I am sure once the devs get into the swing of programming for the PS3 we will see some interesting titles but at present it just doesnt cut the mustard.

The price is already down to £4000 on one online retailer, and ebay sales are going for about £400 too. Wait a year, ill get one for less then £300 i reckon

sorry not so true!

they dropped the price at there own will, they said they are not trying to shift stock and in fact have a nice steady flow of PS3's coming in and out

Swifty.. No one said Sony lowered the MSRP.

Although, it seems pretty damned obvious that Aria are lowering prices for a reason. No one cuts prices just 'cuz. Clearly, they aren't moving as many as they'd like. Though I'm sure they're trying their best to not piss of their supplier, and are saying that they're selling fine. But, come on. You can actually believe they lowered prices on a whim.

There is more problems ahead for Sony in the UK after it's been revealed that Sales Figures have dropped by 82%. That by no margin can be considered good news, this is a shame but I suppose it reflects the High Price and the Lack of Games to it's rivals.

Looks like Blaze is onto something here, god I hate saying that and it's happening more often. :p

well the second week was always going to be bad and as was said its mainly price

but meh sales figures dont mean much to me... Im still happy with my PS3

saying that the PS2 sales in the UK dropped 78% in week two and again stock was readily available, so it might be a good sign :D

Sales figures should matter though. Didn't Eidos say they aren't releasing PS3 games until 2008 because of a low install base? Might've been another publisher. Either way, you don't want other companies making similar decisions.

The simple truth is, if you own a system, you want others to own and want the system as well. This isn't about some abstract, useless fanboyism. This is about realizing that games go where the customers are, and customers go where the games are. If the PS3 continues to get into that vicious no-game cycle, that's bad, bad news for anyone who made the large investment and bought into the system.

yes you're right

but for me the sales figures don't affect me, Im still happy with the PS3 and the current games (plus eBay means I can import to)

Eidos yes that was a blow and the delay of R6V and GRAw2 will be a blow to others but Im not to fussed about waiting for those titles! Quite happy with F.O.M, motorstorm and Madden for the time being

plus even 360 fans must admit the PS3 home does look pretty amazing and thats out in a couple of months

lol... I love that people (not saying people on here so dont jump to conclusions) are saying Sony are already planning to stop stocking PS3's in the UK, what because of this sales blip... ok then :D

lol and come August Ill have a 360 again get it of eBay cheap in time for Halo 3 :)

I agree, I can see that being useful on a few occasions kind of like an interactive lobby where you can all chat, see it being very good for clan meetings and such.

However on a Regular Basis, I'm not sure

Seems like a free version of Second Life, without much building stuff.

It's not gonna move many consoles, but, I wouldn't be annoyed if something similar came to XBL. Seems like I could waste quite a few hours on that thing.

It'll probably try and get money out of you after a while aswell.
For example been able to download new things to customise your house or charater.
Possibly.

Not to start an argument but HOME is hardly anything breakthrough, Its just acheivements(yes acheivements) an arcade and some well placed ads through-out the world. Yes i would prob use this if I had the option but its not pushing me to buy the system

Yea I know what you are saying it's not the "killer app" that's not an argument that's just a point of view...lol

I think people took what I said or others far too seriously, thought not a complaint, anyway I agree with you.

I would use it but I wouldn't buy a system for it, like I said previously it would have it's uses but it's not something you would use all the time. For me there is more important issues for the Playstation Network to work on and one of them being able to Listen/View Messages in Game.

This title is generally negative anyway, but like Vamp points out this is only the first couple of weeks this could easily be the silence before the storm.

I didn't quite mean it like that

I meant it in that sense that Ive got the PS3 and this is a neat feature to add to the PSN

If I was buying I would also agree and say that this wouldn't win me over but would still look pretty nifty anywho but cause I have the PS3 I obviously get it free of charge which makes me a little bit happier

ok not the best explanation (I mean how the ---- should I have explained it :D) but I hope you get my drift...

and again in regards to the 80% downer you can't review a console on its first two weeks of sale, thats plain stupid in reality! :) The PS2 for one like I said before again went down almost 80% in its second week was readily available throughout the UK and look how popular it ended up ebing... Im NOT saying the PS3 will duplicate the PS2, its just that it might...

Well, yeah. The video says things will be on the store. But I don't have a problem with a company creating a revenue stream by giving consumers another unnecessary money sink. Only when it's necessary.
