Backward compatability games

Have you ever went into a game shop and saw a classic game you have heard so much about from the Xbox, that was really highly recommended. You take this game home cause you like the look of it, shove into your Xbox 360 for a bit of last gen HD gaming and then you get an error message basically saying "Microsoft cannot be arsed converting a better game than Cars the movie or Leisure Suite Larry". This has happend to me a couple of times first I bought The Elder Scrolls Morrowind (not compatable) then I bought Men of Valour (the same problem) and the same happend again with Mecernaries. Morrowind gathers dust on my shelf and Mercenaries (which I bought today) I will have to eithier keep like Morrowind or take it back and argue with the staff because of their warranty policy and it is all Microsofts fault. These arent unheard of games these are games which were highly rrecommended to me and Morrowind especially, I would say is a much better game all round than Halo 2. Im going to send some emails to Microsoft and im starting an internet petition to tell Microsoft to convert good games and if you tell me some games that you would like to see converted then just post them here and ill add them to the petiton list and my email. I would be greatful for support as some of these classics are alot better than some of the next gen stuff.

I will not rest until Outrun 2006 & Panzer Dragoon Orta are backwards compatible. Not confident of it happening soon though as they both sold pretty poorly and both have extremely high-end graphics.

Those two are pretty much the only Xbox games I care about still being able to play.

To be fair to MS they have been pretty open about which games work and which dont. Its your own fault that you bought games that wont work as the info is easy to find on the net.

I agree with Bingo, Microsoft have never said that the Xbox 360 is full Backwards Compatible. So although that must of been a pain in the ass you could of easily checked before getting it.

It might not be a bad idea for Microsoft to actually provide stores with an Update List so they could tell you but in the end it's all about Xbox 360 Games...Simply put. That's where the money is!

In all honesty this would be avoided if MS actually had all the big names on the list. But the likes of Orta being omitted is just baffling.

And surely MS could put some pressure to get appropriate titles made. I mean, surely it's in the best interests of MS to have a strong BC list.

To be fair I dont think BC is very high on MS list of things to do. As has been mentioned before they wont be making very much money from BC games as most will be available via trade in's etc and the retail value for MS is zilch.

The only winner is the game retailers who can flog these traded in titles.

Maybe not in retail but what about comparisons to other consoles. Wii has full BC and PS3 has limited, if MS could say "Yeah it's limited, but it's all AAA titles" then it'd be a major coup.

I don't think it would be in all honesty, granted it will appear better for switchers but unless you have some quality 360 Games no one is going to switch.

Just like my Brother and his Playstation 2, he's not switching to PLaystation 3 until they get some quality PS3 titles and I think most people are the same. Granted it's nice to have but it's not the overriding decision that having quality titles or the propect of quality titles in the near to short term.

The only ones I want to see backwards compatible are Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction and Midtown Madness 3.

Every other game I want to see backwards compatible already are and I have them. Including Conker: Live and Reloaded, Dead or Alive 3, Dead or Alive Ultimate, Family Guy (the video game), Sonic Mega Collection Plus, & SoulCalibur II.

And no, MS has full control over what it decides to make BC. I think you're thinking of the Psychonauts thing and getting it the other way around.

What happens is MS runs the whole Xbox library through the current emulator (with a lot of automated testing). The team sees which games are the closest to running well, then which of -those- games are popular, and then starts programming.

Once a game works on the emulator, it usually takes a few crappier games with it. That's why you have the Cars and the Leisure Suit Larry. Those games just worked BC because some other better, more popular game worked.

Developers of the titles aren't necessary, unless (presumably and obviously) there's been some odd/strange/unorthodox coding that MS is stumped by.

But why just convert the games that are easier and this wouldn't happen if Microsoft converted some half decent games, I accept that they are busy on alot of other projects but come on, theres some brilliant older games out there

Remember its software we are dealing with here. If they patch one thing generally another one goes wrong. I am sure there was an article from one of the BC team doing the rounds on the net a while back I will see if I can locate it for you if your interested in the whole process.

ahh I see what you mean, the technology is not compatablewith some games and therefore it is harder, I would still like to see more of the classic Xbox games such as Morrowind and Mercs Playground of Destruction. But if it impedes the efforts to make Xbox 360 a much better next-gen experience then I can wait for Mercs 2 and get my money back. Id still like to see Morrowind on 360 though as this was a class game and at points of gameplay more advanced than Oblivion which was much more story oriented

Anyway it appears to me that only you over-reacted but surely making a mistake and then doing the exact same thing again doesn't put you up for any intelligence awards especially considering how well known it is the fact of limited Backwards Compatibility for Xbox 360.

Also your rep more than likely went down due to the fact that you lack some forum manners such as double posting, triple posting and over reacting to comments. Merely because people had a lack of sympathy but they still provided you with Information so you don't make it a third time.
