Best 1st Game To Buy...

Hey All,

I'm getting a 360 very soon (thanx to my Vunderbar family), and would like some opinions on what game I should buy first.

I'm after something that will show off the capabilities of the xbox but also have some staying power, I would hate to waste my money on a title that i could complete in a day and never want to pick up again.

So, roll up, roll up, all ideas welcome...

Well your best choice would probably be Gears of War, it may not take too long to complete on Casual, but on insane it'll take some time, and be more fun ;)
Plus the multiplayer seems to be the dogs, not for me though.

Another you could go for is Oblivion, but only if you like RPG's. This will keep you busy for hundreds of hours if you get into it and want to do everything in it (which is ALOT)

PGR3 is also a good choice, looks stunning and will take sometime to complete on gold, let alone platinum :D Online is extremely fun if your with some mates (Y)

Obviously theres games like Rainbow Six Vegas, and GRAW2 which are very good also.

Id say when you get your 360 just download feck loads of demo's (Y)

EDIT: You should probably pick up Condemned aswell since its an awesome game and you can get it for mere pennies these days.

phat as it all, try out some demos first and some arcade trials to test the water.

you can download 6 at the same time and start playing on your copy of Gears of war. SP is awesome.

It looks amazing, certainly showing off the power of the 360, and it'll also last you ages if you get into the multiplayer.

Gears of War looks spectacular as well, but the story is terribly short, and online will be rubbish for someone just starting to play it now, seeing as it's difficult to get into and a lot of people are very good now that it's been out for a while.

Gears of War, and like Phat said, try and pick up Condemned for next to nothing.
Both have excellent single players, and Gears of War online is a love/hate thing. You either really like it, or really hate it.
Try borrowing some games off your brothers!

If you want to play online get COD2 its the best multiplayer experience on the 360 to date.

For single player I would go for Gears of War :)

If you have a HD Readty TV this will really show it off.

Overall - Gears of War

If you like realistic shooters - GRAW2

If you like racing games - PGR3, Brunout revenge or wait for Forza 2

If you lke RPGs - I hear oblivion is good

If you like sports - Pro Evo 6 all the way

If you liek stealth games - Splinter Cell Double Agent

If you liek free roaming games (gta style) - Crackdown

oblvion is a definite must for a first game. it will definitely keep you going for a long time. i've probably clocked around 50 hours on it and still not close to finishing it. with all teh guild quests and side quests, plus main it'll keep you entertained for hours. if you like RPGs that is.
GOW is a good game to introduce yourself to live with. It's brilliant fun online!
PGR3 is excellent and with the GothamTV feature is great. But i suggest,as Truplaya said, waiting it out for Forza 2 since the first one was fantastic
Theres also both GRAW games which are brilliant. Rainbow six Vegas, Splinter Cell Double Agent. Basically anything with Tom Clancy on it for the 360 is good quality and money well spent i think!

Check out the bargain basement thread there is some really cheap titles there so you might even get more games for your money :)
