In an interview at the GDC on Friday ID CEO claims that Piracy forced them consider development on the Next Gen Consoles.

"Piracy has pushed ID as being multiplatform,"

Seems like the huge increase in development costs for games like Quake Wars the PC market is unsustainable due to the proliferation of Broadband Connections and pirate copies.

There will be much more of this in the future and the closed architecture of the consoles should lead more and more PC developers into the console arena.

I really dont see it being a problem so long as the ports take advantage of the hardware they on and the online aspect is more or less the same as its PC cousins.

Thoughts?

I think that developers have only themselves to blame they charge far too much for Console Games so people are forced into a small section where by they can't play the games they want.

If they had more lower priced games they would sell alot more, just look how everyone jumps on those £20 games even if they are crap.

So if they had more suitable pricing I think that this element of the piracy would go.

Edit: However I never had a PC Game except Sims, Theme Park and Football Manager but they probably feel the same way. I don't know I'm just calling it the way it seems like for Console Gamers.

No you're missing the point, they are moving into the console market because the PC market is overrun with piracy, so instead of putting a £30 price tag on a newly released game and watch millions download it they will port the game to the consoles and using the 360 as an example sell it for £40/50 and watch nobody download it.

If you understand, but yeah you have a point games are too expensive, I spent £100 on GRAW and FNR3 when they came out which is ridiculous, I have saved hundreds of pounds by downloading games for the PC and PS2, but even though I do buy the odd game I would buy them alot more often if the price was reasonable.

No game should be over £30 regardless of the console so on one hand it is a shame they lose out on millions but on the other hand I couldn't care less as they expect too much in the first place.

But saying that, even if they lowered the price of the PC games it won't change much, I mean I can either download a game free of charge in an hour 2 weeks before it's released or go out and spend £30 on it, I know what I'd rather do anyway.

Plus due to the Americans getting everything first the time the game does eventually come out everywhere else the impatient people like myself would've already downloaded it, so they need to bring it out everywhere at the same time and at a cheaper price and I'm sure that would help against the piracy problems but nothing will stop it, so they can either accept it or stop making games.

To be honest guys it depends on how much you play your console. I mean someone that barely plays will be happy paying £40 for a brand new game, because it will be the only game they play that month and they're happy doing that. However some people want to get every good game and pay lots of money, they think the overal price should be lowered because of this but that's only because they don't get out!

But ermmm yeah bout piracy, I did a lot of that on my PS2 and Xbox but don't anymore, I hated getting 30+ games for my birthday/christmas and not knowing what to play (spoilt for choice). Games such as Gran Turismo 4, Total Overdose and more never got played as I had so much choice haha.

I think my posts has gone a bit of the point but that's because I don't really understand what bingo is saying. :$

lol - I was the same. I could nab 10 titles per week and they would be lucky to get around 1 hour play time each before being put in a case and never played again.

The point I was making is that more PC only developers will have to produce titles on the next gen consoles to make any money. Most PC games are hacked and online before release date and the developer sees no profit from it.

Piracy on the next gen consoles is minimal at present thus creating a much larger pool of gamers willing to spend their hard earned on a product. They may trade it in after a while but the developers still get that initial sale which on the PC they are lacking.

Sure non us of know what he's on about, we only replied to keep him posting here otherwise he'd post his bargains elsewhere.

Anyway I don't know how to stop if for PC Gamers maybe actually give something to them instead of a cheap case with a CD thrown inside.

However he seems to think that the Console Market is Piracy free which is a extreme ignorance granted it's less than PC Games at the moment but I don't know one person who didn't have his chipped. Although with the launch of the New Consoles Piracy will have a challenge at the start but as it progresses the Chips and Hack will all be there like last time.

The thing is they have actually got to start rewarding people for going legit, maybe an actual code in the boxes that does actually give them some valid information or tutorials or whatever.

They should find a cheap but attractive way to cheap people staying legit, maybe Content Maps that you can only get via Special Codes inserted into Retail Games.

dont forget about the greedy retailers.

i remember i bought TDU for £59 because it was the only shop that had it at release day.

The reward of not having a chipped Xbox was Xbox Live. I tried connecting my first chipped Xbox to Live and it didn't work, this really upset me as I really wanted to play Live (biggest reason as to why I won't ever chip my 360). Later on my dad got another chipped Xbox which apparently can go online but I haven't bothered to try it out.

But yeah, Xbox Live is a massive reward lol.

Oh and £59 Rilu! Ouch.

a scratch n sniff voucher for some MS points would be a nice sweet little incentive, not necessarily enough for a download just enough for us to accumulate into a worthwhile purchase off Live - something similar to the 48 hr trial vouchers
