Core 360 Drops to £150

Play.com have dropped the price of the Xbox 360 to just £149.99. That's £50 less than the RRP (or, as I like to look at it, another game!) and also makes the console the cheapest of the three "next-gen" consoles in the UK, with the Wii retailing at £179.99 and the PS3 at £424.99.

The move comes after wholesale retailer Makro reduced the price of the Premium Xbox 360 to just £199.99 (before VAT) making it the same price as the Core console at most stores.

Fellow online retailer Amazon have followed Play's lead and dropped the price of the Core console to £189.99.

Check out the links below for more information and you'll be helping out 360Monster in the process.

It's no longer £150. It's gone back upto £199 :(

Cheapest means sweet fa considering it's almost a year older than the other 2 next-gen consoles, and considering the WII is only £20 more I wouldn't get too excited if I was Microsoft.

Cheapest means sweet fa considering it's almost a year older than the other 2 next-gen consoles, and considering the WII is only £20 more I wouldn't get too excited if I was Microsoft.

So what you are saying is that people will see the vast collection of Xbox 360 Games, the Cheap Price, High Definition and Superb Online compared to it's rivals and get the Wii for £20 more?

I'd disagree with the most titles being Multi-Format why would anyone purchase a Wii with substandard graphics in comparison or a PS3 which is hugely over priced for the limited amount of exclusives you can get.

I think it's a huge boost for them, especially if you add in the HD-DVD (if that takes your fancy) for £120...You have a great combo there for only £270 greatly cheaper than the PS3 on the Market.

It's a big boost and theres no denying it in my view.

No what I'm saying is, there is no point gloating over the price when the console is a year older than the PS3 and Wii, I mean it's obvious the xbox 360 would be cheaper at this stage so there is nothing to boast about.

What difference does a year make?

No difference, I mean what is a year? 12 months is nothing!

That was a silly question Big D, I mean lets tell Microsoft to stop selling them for a year because after all it makes no difference, if you seriously don't think it makes a difference then.........

Yea Sorry I had more to that question before I submitted it :s

My point was the what difference does a year make when people see the same games at the same price but then see a lot cheaper console.

They will see most of the games on the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 because that's what we seem to be told for Developers and Publishers to be making these vast sums they need to go Multi_Format and sticking on on Console just won't suffice.

So in the end it all comes down to the Price of the Unit, the fact people know it's been out for a year just make them realise theres alot more games out for it. It's not like they are going, oh well thats Old now it's time to get a PS3 or Wii for more money.

Nah what I mean is you lower the price when you sell enough, so obviously compared to the Wii and PS3 the xbox 360 will be alot cheaper as it's been out for a year hence sold alot more than the other 2 consoles.

Obviously Microsoft have decided to lower the price because the sales are slowing down hoping they sell more units, but my point is the price drop is nothing special or anything to be proud of, now if all 3 consoles were out for say 6 months and the xbox 360 was cheaper I'd see the point, but considering they have a year on the Wii and PS3 it's just normal.

They havent lowered the price - that is why i changed the thread title as it was confussing. That was a couple of weeks back and the price has gone up once more MS however are including Viva Pinata or Fusion Frenzy and a mem card for the £199 now.

There maybe places that sell it cheaper than rrp but it still retails in most places for £199

@Kalou:

Yea but the PS3 and Wii would of been out last year if it wasn't for the delays, so Xbox 360 have done better they have delivered on what they set out .So by doing this and gaining the year they have been able to benefit.

I doubt it's a price drop as one it's not official but also because they have no reason to drop they how currently shipped more units than Playstation there main competition and it appears as if that the UK isn't keen on the PS3 Launch. With Sony still be able to guarentee consoles for Launch although reserving about 200,000 Units.

A price drop to £150 for a core system would bring it in to the realm of an impulse buy for many people. I knew I wanted another one for the bedroom and the price of £150 certainly swung it for me. I am sure there are other people in the same boat as well.

There is a huge back catalogue of AAA titles and plenty more looming on the horizon. Compare that to the PS3 and Wii which are largely unproven at present and MS can clean up. There is also Xbox Live to further sweeten the deal. Anyone I know that has played my 360 over live has commented on how simple it is to get online and get playing with like minded gamers.
