View Full Version : HD-DVD - What No King Kong?
Just got my HD-DVD drive. Working at the moment so can't play with it just yet. One thing I noticed is no King Kong. For those that did get it with their HD-DVD, did it come in a retail case or was it in a sleeve?
Anyone know if you can claim the HD-DVD film if you didn't receive it, or like was it just a temporary promotional thing?

Yea but no one would buy it, but I suppose considering it's free you can't complain.
Oh well that's annoying, it was mearly for testing it out the quality.
Like Toby said, being so hard to get I would have thought they would still be doing this. I heard some stores were still shipping the unit with King Kong and places like Play we not. I took a gamble with Dixons and no King Kong in this one.
So more waiting then, while I order something...hmm...what to get

Get a New Film, don't get an Old film that they have revamped and released on HD-DVD purely to boost it's sales.

Not that I can see yet. Good film that.
Anyone know of a good review site that looks a quality of the HD-DVD transfer etc? I remember going to a place like DVDReview or something that kinda did that for DVD.
Edit - Looks like they are doing some now on that site. http://www.dvdreview.com/reviews/hddvdreviews.html anyone know of any better sites like this?

Saw a demo of that running on some HD teles last year. The part where they are meeting in the middle of the battle field before the battle and in the demo they cut this scene in half one side DVD other HD, and wow such a difference. I've seen the film and in that scene I thought being blured like that was part of way it was meant to be shot, as it was shot at a distance.
But in split screen demo, the HD version was showing pure sharp characters in in the distance etc.

That is correct - it was a chrimbo gift in the first batch Mant and having watched King Kong in HD over Sky which was great it can only be better on a disc.
There are quite a few website's that offer huge discounts of HD-DVD's like play.com and that which im sure you'll know. Other than that could you rent a few to try out?

yeah its a shame the film cuts away from all the battles, the wall breaks then it cuts away to the next day and hes surrendering i was pissed offf the first time i seen it when that happened and i was pissed off again last night as i had forgotten that it happened like that.
anyways im not getting a hd dvd player or a bluray till theirs an offordable one that plays both, the fact that the 2 formats is annoying for instance the new james bond and black hawk down only on bluray.
i have also watched king kong on sky hd and it was amazing i like the film soo all you king kong haters you know do one!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mines came in a Retail case just as you would buy it in the shops.
King Kong was included for a limited time only.
As for the purchase of HD DVD's I can recommend a few.
I have bought them from
Choices (http://www.choicesuk.com/ProductList.aspx/DVD_Home/HDDVD_DVD_Home?pg=1)
DVDWorldUSA (http://www.dvdworldusa.com/hddvdlist.asp)
Movietyme (http://www.movietyme.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=218&osCsid=a4fb6057b3d7ce43266be6fd82ca8ec7)
DVDPacific (http://www.dvdpacific.com/AdvancedSearch2.asp?sfl=1&HDonly=1)
Best service has been MovieTyme. Placed and order on the Friday and it arrived on the Saturday.
DVD Pacific is the cheapest though.

There is also a great THREAD (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=705146) on there that instructs you on hwo to get your HD downloads onto normal dual layer DVD's for playback on the 360 HD DVD drive.
At present I have King Kong, Bourne Supremacy, Batman Begins, V for Vendetta and Chronicles of Riddick all on HD DVD. Every single one of them is outstanding. Gonna get The Departed when its released as well.
