Anyone think this bit of news is legit?

www.gamersreports.com reports that Microsoft Australia has told a store named Myer to prepare the store for a Black 360 with a 120GB hard drive in April. The black Xbox 360 is due out in Australia for $749 AU in April. They will try to push this forward to late March to deter buyers from the March 23 PS3 launch.

Doubt it, MS told 1 aussie store owner, and no-one else?

Myer is a huge chain down there, apparently: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myer

So I doubt it's as bad as "one store owner." Odd though that Australia would be getting this model first. Or, almost just as odd, simply told first.

I'm skeptical, but not wholly so.

I don't think they'd have to test much. I mean, I doubt that they're gonna have three SKUs, two whites and one black with a bigger drive. It seems obvious that the 120 drive will completely replace the 20 one, dontcha think?

Nope I think they will drop the Core version and then have the Premium as the lower Model and the Black one with the Bigger Hard Drive which I expect we be the "entertainment edition" for that IPTV they were talking about.

Bumping ftw!

Actually, I think that since IPTV is not very widespread, or well understood, it doesn't make sense for MS to really change their SKUs and marketing around that feature. Perhaps if the hardware required is really cheap and insignificant, it'll be included as more of an afterthought. But it definitely won't be touted. I wouldn't be surprised if they're simply 360s that cable companies are allowed to distribute themselves.

And while I think we'd all certainly prefer it if every 360 came with a hard drive, I really think that simply won't ever happen. Microsoft's has talked too much about how committed they are to cost-cutting, so as to be able to sell 360s in India and Africa and South America.

Furthermore, if every 360 came with a hard drive, I'd imagine MS still wouldn't allow every game to require the hard drive for caching, simply because there is a decent sized number of Core 360s already out in users' hands.

Yea but Microsoft have already stated that a new console element if not a console itself has to be released to be IPTV functional, I have to admit I am also one of those that have a lack of understanding on the issue.

The reason I say they would get rid of the core as otherwise you will have a huge price gap between the lower model (Core) and the Black Version that would obviously be more expensive id it's going to include HDMI, IPTV and a Larger Hard Drive or any mix of the Three.

There is that possibility that Cable Companies could instead distribute the IPTV version as you will have to be signed up there service in order to receive it so releasing a Console on the Market to buy that forces you to go with One Service seems pointless you may aswell let the Company themselves distribute them. Ya i have heard of that too. I dont think that microsoft will drop the other model. i have a question does any body think that they will just make a larger hard drive upgrade that would work wouldnt it.
