I think the reason they use old maps is due to the fact that the Satellite Imaging Companies don't allow the new maps to be used for "security reasons" they also "photoshop out" Military Bases.

I don't think they are as old as 50 Years, I'd say 10-15 Years myself.

Satellite Images as far as I am aware, although would Maps to a certain degree be the the same. Then again the Ordnance Survey carry out that so it wouldn't be the exact same.

Yeh google maps does maps and satellite images. I need to be clear that your on about the maps rather than the photo images.
