As some of you may know I am staff on Matchbox360 (http://matchbox360.co.uk/) and I'd like to share some of the competitions we have planned over the next few weeks.

Matchbox360's aim is to provide quality Xbox Live competitions and we took it one step further in November with our first LAN event in Birmingham. Our forums and frontpage had a complete overhaul and tonight we launched the new competitions.

So, we have:

HALO2 FFA (http://www.matchbox360.co.uk/events/Halo+2+-+FFA)
HALO2 4v4 (http://www.matchbox360.co.uk/events/Halo+2+-+4v4+Knockout)
GEARS OF WAR - EXECUTION 4v4 (http://www.matchbox360.co.uk/events/Gears+of+War+-+Execution+4v4)
RAINBOW 6 VEGAS - TEAM SURVIVAL 4v4 (http://www.matchbox360.co.uk/events/Rainbow+6+Vegas+-+Team+Survival+4v4)
PGR3 LEAGUE - SEASON 3 (http://www.matchbox360.co.uk/events/PGR3+League+-+Season3)
PES6 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE (http://www.matchbox360.co.uk/events/PES6+Champions+League)

All these competitions are FREE to enter and open to any European gamer.

So what do you 'have to do' if you are interested in taking part in any or all of the competitions?

1. Head over to Matchbox360 (http://www.matchbox360.co.uk/) and sign up to the forums.
2. Have a look through the competition details on the frontpage and also have a look in our Competitions subforum (http://community.matchbox360.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=27).
3. Sign up for the competition on our frontpage.

If you don't have a team, but would still like to participate or find a team, please do check out the subforums for the specific competitions. As of posting this I know that there are several other people that don't have a team just yet.

As said before every competition is free. Prizes so far are unconfirmed, but we will update it as soon as they are.

Spaces are limited, so if you are interested, you will need to make your mind up very soon!

Any more questions, please feel free to ask them here or in our forums.

Thanks, Ant for allowing me to post this here.

I hope to see many of you guys taking part.

Cat :)

EDIT: The forums are still looking a bit bare at the moment. We switched to vBulletin a few weeks ago and decided not ot carry the database across, as we'd previously migrated it accross different forums. This (http://community.matchbox360.co.uk/vanilla/) is our old forum (viewing only) and we haven't got any of the information for previous competitions, but we have run several PGR3 leagues, many Halo2 competitions and more. :)

EDIT2: There are some problems signing into the frontpage and registering, as it occasionally gives the 'Applications Error, Rails' message. This is most likely due to the short timespan between the sign up to the forums and the attempt to register for a comp. If that still occurs, please post your details in this thread (http://community.matchbox360.co.uk/showthread.php?t=282). Any more problems, feel free to PM me on here or MB.

Make sure that you read the rules and gametypes settings before registering. There are set times for some of them and those need to be fulfilled. If you can't make a fixture in either the PGR3 or PES6 league you have to inform the others in the forums.

All team members need to be signed up to Matchbox360 prior to signing up for any of teh team competitions. It's the responsibility of the teamleader to ensure they are. ;)

Yes, it's over Xbl.

Ok cool, i've signed up and i'll play in the PES6 one if thats ok? I was wondering though, in the pes6 one do we chose our own teams or is it random?

carocat

Club teams only. You may choose any club team you wish to use, but must remain with that team for the duration of the tournament.
Hope that helps. ;)

Yeah just read that in the rules lol. Problem though, i'm trying to enter it but it says I have to be logged in to do so. I click login, enter my username & password, click ok and it says "Application error (Rails)". :s

?

Oh and I can sign in just fine on the forums.

Yeah, I haerd a few people have problems with that. I blame the admins for that. :D

I'll get that sorted out as soon as possible for you.

If anyone else has any problems, please let me know asap. Cheers. :)

I'll probably be signing up for the Halo 2 ffa competition, maybe the 4v4 if I have a word with a couple of people.

Any idea of the rules used in Halo cat? Anything like mlg?

carocat
16/Jan/07, 03:45 AM
It will be MLG rules with slight variations.

Have a look here for the FFA (http://www.matchbox360.co.uk/events/Halo+2+-+FFA/halo+2+-+ffa+gametypes) and the 4v4 (http://www.matchbox360.co.uk/events/Halo+2+-+4v4+Knockout/halo+2+-+4v4+gametypes). :)

tyvm for the links cat.

Sorry to be a pest, but how will the hosting work? Assuming that 8 people are scheduled to play, who sets up the game etc? And how will the game types be verified by judges or what have you?

If you could answer any of these, I'd appretiate it loads, it'll help me explain to my team mates when I force them to play the 4v4 with me. :)

You're not a pest (yet). ;)

Right, the hosting. Major issue on Halo.

We are going with this for the FFA (http://www.matchbox360.co.uk/events/rules?event=Halo+2+-+ffa):
# All entrants will be the responsible for arranging fixtures, communication between players and with the event organisers.

# The host issue is an important one. In each group of eight players the player with the highest upload should receive host. If upon starting the match players agree that the host is unplayable the match may be restarted and host. From the quarter finals onwards, neutral hosts will be provided.

# The game should be set to invite only, in the event that a player lags out, they are to be invited back into the game as soon as possible

# If the game is unplayable due to extreme lag and latency issues and all players consent to a match being replayed then it may, however you must first contact a member of the event team to inform them

# Players will compete in a single arranged match per week on a Wednesday evening per week, between 6 ~ 11pm.

# It's the responsibility of the players competing to ensure the correct settings are being used prior to the start of a match. A match may only be re-played due to incorrect settings if all players agree.

# Players must play the gametypes specified for the current game week, in order, as listed in the gametype section here*.

So what does this mean? Once registartion is finished we will list the fixtures in good time prior to the events. (If not, bug us!)

So you'll see your name with all the other FFA/4v4 people posted up, then you can go ahead sorting it out and arranging everything for the match.

For the 4v4 (http://www.matchbox360.co.uk/events/rules?event=Halo+2+-+4v4+Knockout), it's this:
# Teams may nominate to have one substitute player, this player is eligible to take the place for a member of the team who is not available to compete in the tournament.

# A team will designate one player to be the leader; they will be the responsible for arranging fixtures and communication between teams and with the event organisers.

# The host issue is an important one, teams seeded at the XL event will always be given host over un-seeded teams. Teams competing who did not attend XL will be given host randomly, the team drawn first will be given host.

# The game should be set to invite only, in the event that a player lags out, they are to be invited back into the game as soon as possible.

# If the game is unplayable due to extreme lag and latency issues and all players consent to a match being replayed then it may, however you must first contact a member of the event team to inform them.

# The host player should be the player who has the highest upload speed on the home team. The home team will host the second and one other game of their choice. The remaining game is to be hosted by the away team.

# The host team will always play as red.

# Teams will compete in a single arranged match per game week; Monday to Sunday. It is the team's responsibility to arrange, play the match and report the result before the end of the game week.

There will be threads on the forums for arranging times/discussing fixtures.

Does that answer your questions? :)

It answers all of them! Thank you again.

One more question... will you be entering?

You're welcome. :)

I don't know yet. I haven't played Halo 2 since XL (end of november), as I've now given it a rest after nearly 2 years.

I am very tempted by the R6 competition, but I don't have a team at the moment.

I'll have to see....

EDIT: If anyone has problems signing into the frontpage or enter the competitions, please post in this thread (http://community.matchbox360.co.uk/showthread.php?t=282) and leave your details or PM me on here or MB.

Cheers. :)

if its over XBL, y cant yanks play?

carocat
16/Jan/07, 12:49 PM
That's to eliminate the lag.

Matchbox 360 was founded more than 2 years ago as part of a Bungie group to give the UK community less laggy games.

There are also some copetitions that take place at a certain time, like the PGR3 league and the Halo 2 FFA. The timezones would make it impossible to organise.

We have now expanded to Europe and we are thinking of possibly expanding into the US at some point.

Sorry. :)

No worries. :)

As of know these are the available free places:

Halo 2 FFA: 64

Halo 4v4: 19

R6 Team survival: 21

PGR3 league: 49

PES 6: 21

We've advertised a lot this week, so these places won't last much longer. :)

@BIG D: We'll talk about it later?

Right, Cat, 2 questions:

Does everyone have to be registered in my team or is it only me?

I entered my gamertag before I chose a team name, is there a way I can edit my team name later on? Right now it looks blank :s

Edit: Actually, no need to answer the questions Cat, I've withdrawed, then re-entering later when wechoose a name for us so it's hey-o-kay!
