Make sure you have firewalls, virus software, etc off - or at least allowing the 360 to communicate.
The way I had it linked was to have a HUB, then link the 360 into the hub. Then have another cable go from the HUB to the PC, and use a second network card to link your modem to the PC (my modem linked to PC via Ethernet cable, not USB connection). Set PC to internet connection share. Hey Presto, it should work.
If you're wiring it direct to your PC, then I'm not too sure, but it should be the same principle as if you were connecting another PC using a crossover cable.
ALSO: There is no need to spam "please someone" or anything like that, we can see you need help, just be patient :)
Edit Just noticed you said you are just trying to connect it to your PC, not get it on XBOX Live, I don't see the point of just connecting it if you're not using the PC for the internet connection? :s

Standard Ethernet Cable will work, one provided with Xbox 360, no need for a Crossover cable.
It should work straight out of the Box however unless your not running either WMP 11 or Windows Media Connect then streaming content will be a problem.
The IP failure - Set the DNS and IP Settings to Automatic this saves alot of hassle on your part although this might take the Xbox 360 that bit longer to find and establish a connection.
Also what connection test are you doing the Xbox Live one or Media Test as unless you want Xbox Live aswell, not certain from your explanation, then you need to enable Internet Connection Sharing on your Windows PC.
Further help can be found at http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/connecttolive/xbox360/connectionmethods/windowsics.htm
or browse through the Xbox.com Support Section yourself.
On top of that there is a useful 3rd PArty site called - http://www.xboxlivetheguide.co.uk/
Hope that helps

On a side note forums aren't the best place to get instant answers for your questions, it depends on alot of factors. People come to this forum to have fun, talk about games and sort out games on Xbox Live they aren't here to support you.
So be patient be will help you out when they have a chance.
maybe you're using the wrong cable

Please someone.
If you spam again, you are going to get a slap with a wet fish.
Moving this thread over to Hardware
Have patience Arrow im sure someone will be able to help here.
Edit: If it's a direct connection you might have to use Crossover Cable instead.

Well by default it will be set to automatic, so you shouldn't have to change anything here if you haven't already.
@Mant:
One Ethernet cable (supplied with the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system; not included with the Xbox 360 Core system). Unlike the original Xbox system, Xbox 360 does not require a crossover Ethernet cable.
I was under the same assumption aswell, as that was what you had to do with the previous Xbox.

Have you given your ethernet porrt an IP address?
Control panel
Network connections
Right click Local Area Connection
Properties
Scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) select and click properties
then enter
IP address 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Set the xbox to automatic, should work (Y)

Like Russ said it's more than likely that your Firewall is preventing access...
To be honest unless you haven't connected everything properly and have done everything including enabling Internet Connection Sharing then I'm not sure what else it could be.
Try the old Restart everything and hope it works method...

personely i do'nt think it's a good idea to connect yer 360 to yer pc(they say on the x-box site that it could cause problems with yer system's)but i think you might actually connect straight to the back of yer pc(i do'nt know if it's right but check first)hope that help's:unsure:
How do i allow my firewall to let it in?

What about the default gateway?
Yeh sorry but people can't go that deep into networking when they are not right at your PC.
Go here and follow the steps. Its the connectivity wizard and should help you:
http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/support/xbox360/connecttolive/webconnectivitywizard.htm
then try here:
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm
Select your router, then select Xbox Live.
If that fails you will have to phone up MS.
Also, there is a edit button. I suggest you start using it :p
I'm not trying to connect to Xbox live just to my computer.

That is strange...
I'm not trying to connect to Xbox live just to my computer.
I know but you have to setup your routers firewall to allow data from your PC to your 360.
Anyway I'm done now. It looks like your looking for a quick fix which none of us can give you.

Has anyone checked the ip address of arrow? maybe another re-reg? If not then start again - delete everything! and try it. Everyone has told you how to get it to work and we/the site have helped dozens with this predicament!
Funny we carnt with yours?
Hmmm
Well i dunno why it doesn't let me connect to my isp either.

I'm sorry but I'm having trouble actually understanding your situation...
You previously stated you didn't want to connect to the Internet and now you your having trouble contacting your ISP. Please clarify.
If it's purely Media Sharing and you've done everything we've suggested I don't think you have any alternative except to phone MS.
Okay i currently have the setting on the Xbox set to automatic i have plugged in the cable i have the ip thingy in Network connections to automatic it pases the network test on the xbox but not the ip one. I was jsut saying that cos maybe that is a problem?
Phone up Microsoft. They will sort it out in under 20 minutes.

Had a similar problem once when connecting my friends machine at my house. Everything was fine except for the IP.
After an hour of head scratching and a call to Live Support I finally had the sense to check that my ethernet card was working properly. Lo and behold it had been disabled by person or persons unknown (perhaps even voodoo :brow: ). After I enabled it everything was fine and it connected straight away.
To check your ethernet card is working properly:
Click on START
Goto CONTROL PANEL
Double click on SYSTEM
Select the HARDWARE tab
Click on DEVICE MANAGER
Expand the NETWORK ADAPTERS section
Double click on your listed card and make sure there are no conflicts and that the card is enabled (device usage box below).
There is probably a much simpler way to check the card but too tired to find it.
Might not be any help at all but at least it'll be one more thing to tick off as checked. (Y)

I read somewhere that you have to manually set IP address if you are connecting directly to your pc. Think these settings were mentioned in earlier reply.
