Ok ive just recently picked up a 32" Sumsung HDTV. Now I was woundering what would be the best connection to use, VGA or Component? Ive got it on Component atm and I think it looks amazing but ive been told VGA looks even better?

Also, my TV is 720p resolution but in the System Settings on my 360 I can set the res to 1080i. Now what would be better, 720p or 1080i?

Help appreciated. :)

also stick with 720p, unless you have a 1080p tv, thats the one to go for, 1080i isnt as good.

On the older Samsung LCD TV's the Component looked brilliant but I've just bought one of the newer models and I must say it seems to be lacking on Component...a switch to VGA makes it look a whole lot better.

For the cable, look for Joytech...I got mine for £12-ish. Also check Ebay as they have cheap ones on there, I believe Bingo83 (on this forum) got his for 99p!

Yea I think the Joytech one is like £10, but I would rather go for the official one. Unless the Joytech one would give me better quality?

Quality will be the same...I have the Joytech one and I was really impressed with the build quality of it....even the optical cable is really thick braid and well shielded unlike some which are like pubes with glowing ends.

Save yourself a tenner and pick one up.

Hi everyone this is my first post. I own an imported Jap 360 and have been well impressed with it. Not online as far as gaming goes but will be soon hopefully.

My first query is my 360 has been wired via component to a Toshiba Wlt66 and the picture is truly stunning. However I was given a present at Xmas which is a cooler / Av Centre. When this is plugged in it gives me the choice of Component - Component or VGA - VGA. Now having read that VGA was even better and offered 480p upscale I bought a bog standard VGA cable. But the picture quality is no where near as good as component, very blurry and non sharp. Is this a by product of the Cooler / Av Centre or is component the way to go?

I have not connected my 360 to the Internet at all yet so is there any updates I would need?

Regards

If you mean that by watching DVDs on VGA you can get upscaled upto 1080p then that's correct. Which you need the update to get.

I've no experience with the Cooler/AV Centre and would be likely to draw it down on that but depends on your TV really and what's it's native resolution is and also the quality of the connections on the AV Centre and your own cable you are using.

Thanx for your reply. I've gone through the different resolutions and the only ones that look crisp and clean through VGA are squashed into 4:3, but using 1280 x 720 If I can remember looks ok but very blurry and bright.

If I remove the cooler and plug my 360 - Component picture is just wonderful. Why can the 360 not upscale through Component?

It wont work on the WLT66 - this TV is crappy with VGA and can't 1:1 pixel map so your only choice is component unless u wanna play at 1024*768.

At least I know now. Think I'll sell the cooler cant actually think it does alot apart from make even more noise. Can someone also tell me whether 720p or 1080i is the best setting to run at?

720p in my opinion is the best to stick with as it enables games to run at 60 frames per second, whereas 1080i only 30. But it comes down to personal choice - try different games with each setting's

To be honest it's hard to nitce a difference between 720p and 1080i - 720p in theory should be the better tho.
Cheers,
Joe.
