You missed out Ecuador in Group A. :)
Also, England have a good group, but it's not as easy as is being made out. Paraguay and Sweden are both good teams.
Groups C and E are the strong ones, but I can see big upsets in both.

Australia against Japan, Croatia AND Brazil?!
Our team sucks so much it's just not funny...the only reason we got into the World Cup was because Uruguay were to ****y...or maybe it was a fluke...either way, Australia will lose in the first round, if not DEFINATELY the second.
EDIT: Oh come on! I can't even say c-ocky?
AfroJoe

I think Croatia and Japan are beatable for you.
Brazil won't run riot like you think either. Scotland thought they were going to get whupped in 1998 and we only lost 2-1 to them. It's a lot more even at the World Cup than it usually would be.

You should get behind your team a bit more. Have a bit of confidnece in them.
We (England), should easily qualify form that group. We will beat T&T 3, maybe 4-0. And then we need to beat either Sweden or Paraguay and we're through. Seems easy enough to me. :)

I watched the draw tonight (was excited), but I really found it a bore. The groups are really, really sh*t in my opinion and there's nothing to play for. Brazil are too good, and they've got the easiest group.

:| This is some of the best grouping we've seen for years, and has the make-up of one of the best World Cups ever.

Sorry, I totally disagree. The groupings are an absolute shambles. Hell, it's supposed to be the worlds best, but the way they worked was ballsed up from the beginning. Only a certain about of groups allowed two teams to go through automatically, the rest was bollox. Sorry, but it really did disappoint me.

What are you on about? :s
Every group has two teams progress to the 2nd round automatically. If you mean European qualifiers it worked the way it has for a while now, first place automatically through along with the best two second placed teams, all other second placed teams into the playoffs.

10/Dec/05, 06:54 AM
Yeah, sorry about that, got a little confused.
But still, really disappointed with the groups.
You may as well just stick random numbers in for the FIFA ranking. Ah hang on...you did :D
England 9
USA 8?

Right, whats the point in having a draw if tey don't do it proply. I mean, so and so can't go into group x because they are from so and so in the world, wtf?.
Why not just have 1 pot, with all the teams in, everyone has the chance to play everyone. This, imo, woud be more exciting, and fairer. Why didn't Ivory Coast go into England's Group, I didn't get it.
Was an absolute shambles how they did it, especially with the 'A4', G2', I mean, come on, thats ridiculous.
AfroJoe
10/Dec/05, 03:05 PM
It was a stupid system, but I think the groups worked out fairly well.
Group C and E will be great, but I do agree that Germany and Brazil got groups which they're going to wander through without much effort at all.

fixed and the world rankings are correct got them strighte off there website.
It's going to be a good world cup the football standart is up all over the world, and the big teams they will have to run to win, this already happen last world cup, I'm from portugal and I remember it very good.
And I wish you luck killer 57, Mexico is a good team and they fight for the score is going to be a big game, Mexico - Portugal last game of the group and almost for sure just to find the first place of the group, if both play good are both to the knockout round.
But Angola have some good players and Iran they run a lot.
Oh is going to be fun!!!
JJBDude
11/Dec/05, 12:32 PM
England got a good draw there in my opinion, couldn't ask for anymore except to have not been drawn with Sweden again lol.
Group E is going to be the hardest in my opinion, Italy and Czech Republic are great teams and USA will have great difficulty trying to progress.
Killer 57
11/Dec/05, 05:51 PM
RiLu@, I think this is the year were going to make a deep run, we have alot of young talented players to go along with the veterans like Blanco and Burgetti.I'm worried about Angola and Iran because we seem to overlook small oppenents. we sweped USA but almost lost to trinidad & tobego.
It was the same with Portugal in 2002 we lost for USA and Korea but we had a good team, later it was on the newspapers that during the pre-worldcup training we had some internal problems.
But I really believe we have reasons to go long this time, I will try to buy some tickets, I was for the first time watching a cup game "European Cup" last year in Portugal, England - Croatia 4-2 was the final result, and it was great, all the people on the streets from many differents countrys.
Big time!!

Just depends on who hits form at the right time, for me it will be England, Brazil, Germany and Italy In the final four. (I'm just guessing that these 4 can reach the semi-finals but of course they could meet each other sooneer.) But really it's anyone's game.

Totally agree it was a pure joke.Bein from Scotland a wouldnt know much but that was a complete mess. The best 8 teams in seperate goups and then just draw the rest 1 by 1.
England a think should be a little worried, you wont beat Sweden they have 2 of the best strikers around Ibrahimovic and Larsson, the most experinced striker around. As for Paraguay they have a very decent all round team that play TOGETHER,Thats what I think your problem is. Anyway Good luck as I think you MIGHT need it.

PORTUGAL, PORTUGAL, PORTUGAL... :D
To be honest I don’t think that we have difficult group, and whit the tools we Portugal have we have to past to the second round easy and as groups winner.
I would be a shame if we didn’t….
But there some cool matches in the first round that will make us soccer fans drool all over the place…..
England – Sweden
Argentina – the Netherlands
Italy – Czech
And all the 3 matches of the dream team Brazil that I am sure will win this world Cup
This are the country’s I think will pas to the next round….
Germany
Costa Rica
England
Sweden
Argentina
The Netherlands
Portugal
Angola
USA
Czech Republic
Brazil
Australia
France
Korea Republic
Spain
Ukraine
we always forget that not all the big teams get to the next round, I'll write something more later!

this one is for killer and AJ, Portugal wins mexico...
...or has i said before, if both teams (POR & MEX), play good their first 2 games, both win against ANG & IRAN they are on the knock-out round, so both teams can spare a few first team players and it's a open game.
POR in EURO2000 won against GER 3-0 with second team players, and the team now is stronger!

holland and italy hav a great team but dont manage to produce anythink good lately
AfroJoe
07/May/06, 01:59 PM
Yeah, but this could all change at the World Cup. Lippi has said Italy are going to play attacking football, which is somethin Italians have never vowed to do before. And to be honest, they have a fantastic attacking line-up, so they could surprise a lot of people.
And as for the Dutch... well, if the players can stick together and not end up falling out with each other and their coaches like they always seem to be doing, then they've got a good chance.
what does everyone think about englands chances these days on here?

Hmm I dont know I think they could go further but thats only if Owens fit. You need a goalscorer. A prolific one and Owen could be that player. The favourites always have two or 3 so Owen will need to be like he was in 98.
It will be Brazil who will win it though with a slight possibility of FRANCE but I doubt anyone else

Well After watching Mexico beat Venezuela 1-0, I don't think the teams is ready. Although they didnt have Marques and Borgetti in that game, they still played poorly.
when Lippi says ITALY wil play attack football, he's talking about playing with 2 defensive midfield players, hehe! - keep the ball in the middle or on the other side of the field, that means attack in italian, and the numbers dont lie in the end!!!
I don't think FRANCE has a chance, the group is ok but it will hurt be a big name for a final.

07/May/06, 06:59 PM
Materazzi, Inzaghi and Del Piero might not go to the World Cup as they've not been in the squad for ages, and Lippi likes his younger players. Peruzzi won't be there either as he's not played for Italy for years.
Cannavaro and Nesta are fine (best national defensive partnership in the world, regardless of age), and Gattuso and Totti are still about 27, which isn't old at all.

personally i think some of the choice were bad.
e.g. a. Johnson, S. Carson and wallcott who is so inexperienced.

I would play Lennon with Owen. I think the guy is a class act.
You have a really good team but I still think there are better teams. Brazil France Argentina Spain(Why TF do they not do well) Germany since they are hosts. Dont think you will win but you could have a bearing on who does:)
AfroJoe
08/May/06, 04:11 PM
Full of weird decisions. Lennon I can accept, but Theo Walcott?
He used Wright-Philips not playing regularly as an excuse to leave him out, but Walcott hasn't even played for Arsenal yet, so this doesn't add up.
With Owen and Rooney doubts, England's starting squad contains two strikers; Crouch and Walcott. No Bent or Defoe is a very surprisng choice.

Yeah bit too early what age is he??? 7 or something.

No Bent or Defoe is a very surprisng choice.
defoe's on stand by along with johnson
AfroJoe
08/May/06, 06:24 PM
Bent should be there instead of one of them. He's had a much better season than Defoe, and well, Johnson is a Championship player. I don't think a Championship player should be able to play for England.
No Kevin Nolan surprises me as well. He's been excellent.

England squad is a bit of a joke. Can see why he picked Lennon as he has had a really good season (the reaosn why SWP has been left out). But no Kevin Nolan, and Owen Hargreaves is going, pah. If I saw Sven now I would spit in his face.
Like AJ said, with Owen + Rooney probably going to miss the 1st 2 group matches (im guessing), Walcott + Crouch would be laughable! Although I don't rate him as much as some, D. Bent should be going.
PublicEnemy#1
09/May/06, 12:48 PM
Crouch is good but when its a choice out of him or d.bent who would ya pick.
The person who was the highest english goalscorer in the league this season i think,
an injured striker or a young talent with the name of defoe, defoe ovs,
hargreaves who's done nothin for england or wright-phillips who has done more for england in half the matchs hargreaves as had, Wright-phillips it has gotta be.
(Get a grip sven, lad)

Like AJ said, with Owen + Rooney probably going to miss the 1st 2 group matches (im guessing), Walcott + Crouch would be laughable! Although I don't rate him as much as some, D. Bent should be going.
Well choose 2 players that will probably not play 2 games WHAT!!!!!????
Owen and Rooney are great players but, is going over the line, Sven really doesnt care for England folks!
the players them self will say they're ok for playing come in play the first 30 minuts and they get tackle from behind and they're out!:(
England has a strong midfield just put english strikers that score and run Owen and rooney are not the only ones.
The 3rd group game is against SVERIGE!!!

Czech Republic striker Milan Baros fears he will miss the entire World Cup with a foot injury.
The Aston Villa forward has been unable to train properly for a fortnight after developing a problem on his instep and cannot even walk without feeling some degree of pain.
Czech Republic coach Karel Bruckner had hoped to have Baros available for tonight's 3-0 Group E win over the United States in Gelsenkirchen but in the end his star striker was unable to even do any running in the warm-up.
And, while Baros has not yet given up hope of being fit to play some part in the competition, he recognises the signs are not good and he will not be having an injection to numb the pain.
"Of course I am worried I will miss the tournament," said Baros.
"You see all these big games and you want to play in them. This is the first time we have qualified for the World Cup in 16 years and I want to be involved.
"But my health is the most important thing. I do not want to be out for a year just because I have had an injection to try and get me through.
"The problem is with the inside of my foot. It hurts when I move and it is not good.
"I did a bit of training yesterday and, you never know, I might be on the bench on Saturday. If not, I will just be carrying on being a fan instead."
Baros' injury has now become more problematic for the Czech squad because fellow forward Jan Koller seems certain to miss the remainder of the tournament after being stretchered off with a hamstring injury.

Borgetti set to miss remaining group games
Mexico striker Jared Borgetti is facing an eight to ten-day lay-off after picking up an injury in last Sunday’s game against Iran in Nuremberg. The Bolton Wanderers forward limped off 12 minutes into the second half and was replaced by Francisco Fonseca.
A statement released by the Mexican Football Federation confirmed Borgetti had injured the biceps femoris muscle in his left leg after chasing down a ball in the Iran half.
According to the statement, the extent of the injury was revealed by ultrasound and CAT scans, with Borgetti requiring between eight and ten days to make a full recovery. Further scans will be carried out in eight days time to assess his chances of returning to action.
The results mean that the Tricolor No. 9 will miss his side’s next game against Angola in Hanover on 16 June, and is doubtful for their final Group D match against Portugal in Gelsenkirchen five days later.
Borgetti is Mexico’s all-time leading goalscorer, having racked up 38 goals in 76 appearances. The prolific marksman topped the scoring charts in the CONCACAF qualifying tournament with an impressive haul of 14 goals.

Best ending to a match so far, that.
Tunisia took the lead in the first half, but in the second, Saudi Arabia were by far the better team, and equalised about 15 minutes in. Then, in the 85th minute, soon after bringing on Sami Al Jaber (legend ), he gave the Saudis what I thought was the winner. Tunisia hit back in the 3rd minute of stoppage time, however, through Rahdi Jaidi, to cap an excellent finale.

Oooman after the result from the Argentina Vs S&M game Mexico better win their group, the last thing we need is to face Argentina in the second round, I think we can take on Holland.

Mexico!? what happened to Holland man!:'(
AfroJoe
16/Jun/06, 08:28 PM
I was never actually supporting Holland. I just think they've got a good chance of winning it, as they've got a talented, young team, and will have lots of supporters following them all the way.
I didn't think Italy, Spain, Czech Republic or Argentina would start as well as they have, though.

Your "European" comment was kind of right as well.
The teams I'm hoping do well now are Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador and Czech Republic. That's only a quarter European.

Anyway, Oz deserved a draw imo, they were the better team throughout...Ronaldo looks finished, I can see Robinho starting from now on.

Brazil were poor today, I don't think they're going to win. Ronaldinho YET AGAIN proved how over-rated he is, and Ronaldo just plain sucks. Kaka is the only truly great player in the "magical quartet".
How good were the South Korean fans as well? Fecking excellent.

spain were embarrsed yesterday
AfroJoe
20/Jun/06, 01:28 PM
Yeah, that performance is why Spain most likely won't win. Again.
They seemed to lack creativity, and instead of trying to unlock the Tunisian defence, just seemed to be content to pass it around midfield and their back line. They'll beat the Saudis and get 9 points, no doubt, but I just don't think they're as good as someone like Argentina.
Yeh, the koreans must be the best supporters til now.
Peaceful people, they only make noise inside the stafium no fighting great stuff!
