Hahah! AJ! I was aboutto say LOL @ AJ because he finally missed a World Cup game live, but obviuosly not. :(
:D
What was the Poland match like? :)
AfroJoe
20/Jun/06, 05:08 PM
It was alright. Fairly slow, though, as both teams weren't really as bothered about it as they would have been had they still been in with a chance of qualifying.
Finished 2-1, though, so at least there was some action.
I saw just a few plays from it, it was a ok game both teams wanted to win!
POL had to win to not be last in the group, POL did it and I got the right score, or better I got both scores right 3-0 on GER-ECU and 2-1 POL-CRC, hehe!!!!
AfroJoe
20/Jun/06, 05:11 PM
They didn't really, RiLu.
I mean, obviously they wanted to win, but they weren't exactly busting a gut to get to the ball first, or anything like that.
It was more just like a friendly.
Yeh but POL did a better game.

Brackley was commentating, though.
He may suck as a commentator in PES, but in reality he's pretty damn good. Better than probably anyone else at the World Cup for either BBC or ITV.
WACCOE
20/Jun/06, 05:29 PM
Yeah, thats been one of the main disappointments in the World Cup...the crappy commentary.
It really has been poor.
Andy Gray and Martin Tyler ANY DAY!
AfroJoe
20/Jun/06, 05:33 PM
Indeed.
This is the first game Brackley has done live, and if I've worked this out correctly, he'll probably only do another 1, which is most likely to be Angola-Iran. Tough deal for him.
When the best main commentator is Jonathan Pearce, you know you've got a problem. And I mean, he isn't that bad. It's just that, every time I hear his voice, I think back to when he commentated on Robot Wars. I just can't take him seriously. :D
Other than Brackley and maybe Pearce, they're all cack. I hate Motson, I hate Tyldesley, I hate Champion, I hate Drury, and I don't think I like ANY of the co-commentators (Southgate, Pleat, Beglin, Lawrenson, etc). The pundits are all nobbers as well. Martin O'Neill and Gordon Strachan are the only ones who appear to have any sort of football knowledge. Allardyce, McCoist and Shearer haven't been bad, and for a Brazilian, Leonardo has been quite good, but other than the main 2 I mentioned, no-one has really done the job properly. Ian Wright just plain sucks.
/rant :D

ESPN has the worst Commantary hands down, I show more enthusiasm and Joy when I find a Dollar bill on the ground then they show after a goal is scored. That is way I have been watching Univision, the Spanish channel, which has the best commantary (IMO), they guy calls it play by play, and scream Golazo! Golaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazo for about a miute after they score.
AfroJoe
20/Jun/06, 05:37 PM
I've heard about the US commentary situation, Killer, and there seems to be a LOT of people in the same situation as you. Even if they don't understand Spanish, they're watching matches on Univision instead of ESPN.
WACCOE
20/Jun/06, 05:38 PM
Haha...all football pundits suck. Especially Ruud Gullit.
It was well funny when Martin O'Niell had a ful-out attack on Marcel Desailly saying "I do not care how many World Cup's you have won!" HHAHAHAAHAHA
What a loser.
My favourite football pundit has top be Ray Wilkins...he really knows what he is on about.
LOL @ Jonathan Pearce "Urgh, Matilda has the ball, thumps one up so Sir Killalot etc" - what a gimp.
Commentators are crap.

Hahaha, just as B-S thought the back-up had arrived. :D
we had this guy, he died last year, but he was a great commentator, when it was goal he could long seconds cramming goal and then continue - é golo! é golo, é golo, é golo! - and if it was a big game or a GREAT goal he put on some brasilian music!
he was on the radio almost all the time, he talked on this funny way.
On TV he had the beach football WC, and it was music all the way because it's so many goals!!

Australia match was great...we was fighting with a load of old blokes in the pub, because they typicaly wanted to watch Brazil, we won. :p
On PES I always put Brazil's kit like that, I think it look's ace with the white socks and shorts. :D
Graham Poll lost the plot. I said around the 70th minute "he is starting to lose it a bit here"...he then sent 2 players off in the space of 5 minutes :D, which was hilarious - and then should have sent another off but after booking him twice let him stay on, what a terrible mistake for a referee that is, shocking. It eevn said at the bottom of the screen that he had been sent off, but he just carried on - in a WORLD CUP aswell...probably Australia's biggest ever game, hahaha.
Then, before he blew the final whistle I think he realised his mistake, showed him ANOTHER yellow followed by the red - crazy stuff. :D
me too i should had watched AUS - CRO game!

they will be the best matchs
MEX - ARG will be a great game, ARG has played more used more muscle to stay up and it can turn out to be useful on the knockout stage.
The games of SWI-KOR and FRA-TOG will be fun to watch, if FRA wins by 1 or goals can still not make it to the next round because of goal difference.
If SWI-KOR draw both go to the next round, only if FRA scores more than 2 goals

Did you watch the England game yesterday? Your players were diving all over the place. If Rooney had done what Grosso did, it would have been a stonewall penalty.
This is no more than the usual anti-Italian crap the rest of the world seems to give out.
Grosso had every right to go over. Neill threw himself to the ground when he shouldn't have.

Oh sure, I totally agree. It's an absolutely awful way to go out. The only people who have the right to complain, however, are Australians.
The English protesters, however, who seem to think that it's "typical Italians" are somehow failing to realise how moronic that kind of statement is, when yesterday alone they commit a hell of a lot more dives and cases of feigning injury than Italy have done so far in the World Cup.

watch the premier legaue then watch serie A and youll see how easily italian players go down
the same goes for the WC, Italians will fall over if you sneeze

I know Italy is a particularly bad country for diving, BUT you can hardly criticise them for it in that situation when someone like Wayne Rooney or Luis Figo would have done exactly the same thing.

26/Jun/06, 06:32 PM
I doubt Rooney woulda gone down so easily, hes actually one of the England players who would rather stay on his feet, Becks goes down quicker than Rooney which is why the whole of England loves him, cause hes not scared to run at people at stay on his feet
The only thing is that I used to watch the Italians as much as the English (what with no Aussie to watch whom else was there) and its just overtime theyve got a lot worse then most countries when it comes to diving....which is why i dont watch them anymore...Yes maybe the Italians are proud of the win, but Rooney would not have gone down, not even Owen and Crouch woulda just leapeddddddddddddddddddddddd over him with 20ft legs....
dont wanna argue no more ... :) already phoned my uncle in Aussie and had a good rant with him...but hey thats life

Yeh figo can be a sometimes, he's on floor a lot but figo on one-on-one he's the best, watch closely when he plays, he keeps the ball or makes a pass but he doesn't loose the ball, he still on of the best in the world!

Figo fell to the ground like a tonne of bricks when he got a slap on the face yesterday. Van Bommel as well and he did it laughing. I think a dive should be a staight red card if teh referee knows it. Thats what it is in the SPL and there is a hell of a lot less up here now.

With all due respect AJ - I have to disagree. Italy were diving all match, Totti when he came on an Del Piero, both at it all the time...it was so blatant. There was no reason for Grosso to go down, if Grosso wanted he couldv'e totally avoided Niell, but no...sorry to say it, typical Italian style, he had to "dive" over him. And it is sick. It is just plain wrong.

It makes you sick?
I still stand by my comment that you English really can't have much to complain about in regards to Italian diving, seeing as you spent the whole of the Ecuador game conning the referee.
WACCOE
28/Jun/06, 04:34 PM
Hahaha. Yes, it does.
Because I know, and you know, that Italy did not deserve that penalty, and consequently knock Austraia out of the World Cup.
AfroJoe
28/Jun/06, 08:40 PM
No, Italy didn't deserve the penalty. I'm not denying that. I've never denied that.
What I am saying, however, is that it's alright to go off on a big rant when it's Italians that are diving, but if it's John Terry, Steven Gerrard Joe Cole or Paul Robinson diving, feigning injury or whatever, it's either, "the right thing to do" (if you're Ian Wright), or blindly ignored.

I honestly cant believe Im doing this but I am siding with England...a little here...
Yes they dived against Ecudor but the only real culprit Id say was Joe Cole, and maybe Terry. And if they were diving its a first because I dont normally see them dive. Its the teams that win it every four years that are the divers.
Your Brazils, Italys, Argentinas, Frances and Germanys. It is the real reason why they win the world cup. Nowadays the game is played so unfairly. The British teams rarely win anything because they are too honest.
My opinion anyway:)

That's an absurd statement to make. Fair enough, there is cheating by these teams... but to say that's the reason they win the World Cup and England don't is... well, stupid.
England don't win the World Cup not because they're too honest, but simply because they're not good enough.
Not opinion. Fact.

We've got a better chance than most people here think.
France have a lot of players heading into retirement (Zidane, Thuram, Makelele, Barthez, and maybe a couple more if they retire early), Ukraine have proven themselves to be far too reliant on Shevchenko, and basically not very good, and we've played Italy before, and handled them pretty effectively.
Plus, Walter Smith will be in charge for the start of this campaign. If he'd been there for the World Cup 06 campaign, we would have made the playoffs. I hate Vogts. :@

We just have to hope the group works out in our favour.

And the chances of that happening???:p
Very slim but I think we are unbeatable (normally) at Hampden.
AfroJoe
08/Jul/06, 05:27 PM
Yep, teams don't win at Hampden. Well... that's not strictly true. A better statement would be BIG teams don't win at Hampden.
Scotland 1-1 Germany
Scotland 1-0 Holland
Scotland 1-1 Italy
Last 3 real big games at Hampden.
Then we go and lose to Belarus, ruining it all. :(
That's why we'll be much more successful in these qualifiers than everyone thinks, though. We play much better against big sides, and we've now got 3 of them, which could end up working out in our favour.
I say if we can take 3rd place (or if we're pushing it, maybe even 2nd) in the Euro 2008 qualifiers, that'll allow us to become a better seed (4th seed sucks - booooooo!) for the World Cup 2010 qualifiers, and if this happens, then we should have every chance of making it to World Cup 2010.
