Jack Thomson wants to shut down Rockstar games according to his latest TV appearance on Night Line in the USA.

Video Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cM7cwLTSnkQ)

Do you think his crusade to save us from violent video games is worthwhile? Or do you think that you are adult enough to make up your own mind and self regulate what you watch and play?

We have Rockstar North here anyway so they can't touch that. Seriously I don't know how other fellow Americans can stand him. I would of killed him with a baseball bat and stole his money then killed his hoe "boom tish".

What a surprise :D

I guess this guy doesn't like violent games yet instead of being normal and avoiding them he wants to make himself famous by constantly hating them over the years and blaming them for every murder he can.

As I have said, billions buy the games and hundreds, hell if even that, kill APPARENTLY because of it, you do the math.

Good eh? you go from a perfectly normal human being to an insane murderer within a few months of getting GTA.

If he didn't do this how else would everyone know about him? we wouldn't, not that anyone cares now though but it's pretty obvious he is doing this for attention.

Oh and another thing, since when was Rockstar the ONLY company to make violent games?

I hope to a certain degree he succeeds, in the US as I understand it Violent games are given a Guidance Rating rather than a Legally enforceable one, meaning just like he said a 10 Year Old can go in and buy the game even though it is obviously not aimed at them.

To a certain extent it's better here, but Parents attitude's need to change. This games are no more cuddly and playful than any other form of Entertainment given these Ratings.

So although I doubt he will have much success if only he was to improve the Guidance Rating to be legally enforceable similar to Films he would of done a good job.

However it will be in-vain unless Parents are educated to the dangers these games may have to youngsters.

Ssssort of. There are economic, if not legal, forces that make the majority of retailers adhere to the ratings, and not sell M games to minors.

But be honest, what has this got to do with Rockstar? if they rated the game and someone under the age has bought it then it has nothing to do with them, the blame goes to the shop who sold it or the parents of the 10 year old who bought it not the people who developed the game.

maybe ESRB, Rockstar, and Jack need to talk.

Well if they tighten up the law so the same legal status is given to Games Ratings as Film Ratings it will prevent a large aspect of the problems that this person is discussing.

As it's no longer the fault of the Game Developer or the Shop but the Home. It's upto the Parents to then decide what is acceptable for their Children.

i agree the law should be more strict. It annoys me when i come across a 9 year old playing GoW, when it is an 18 cert. They says their parents bought it for them. Wrong if you ask me.

But the law would have nothing to prevent parents from buying them.

My parents have always bought me GTA's, or any games I wanted that were Cert18.
They fail to see the impact it can have, and they have been right, it has never had any mental effect on me, or anyone I know personally.
People just find video games an easy scape-goat for demented people.

Yea but that's upto your Parent's to decide, not the Store.

So in the future if there is problems linked back to your Childhood and overly aggressive games then your Parents know who to point the finger at. However when a individual has the possibility of getting access to games not designed for him there is a problem.

Lets not get me wrong although the British system is slightly better there is still faults with it, as anyone can order a game via Mail-Order using a Solo card and get access to all kinds of Material.

I personally think the BBFC should be made to incorporate Games into there rating system and get rid of the PEGI Guidance Rating System, It's not suitable and I don't personally think it ever was.

How many times have you played on line and the person you are playing is obviously underage? It happens all the time and the parents need to be educated further, not ban the games that are being made.

It should be down to the parents, of course.
Why should games be banned because some underage children play them?
It's not fair on those who are mature enough to actually play it.
Meh, it doesn't really matter what I say tbf.

He's been trying for years, I doubt he'll succeed.

Did anyone see the news article about GTA when it saved some kids from being robbed? Apparently the burgler heard the police on the game say something and he dropped the goods and ran, LOL.
