STOCKHOLM (AFP) - Sweet-toothed Swedes who have spent hours constructing edible Christmas gingerbread houses are seeing their creations collapse in the Scandinavian country's unusually damp winter, suppliers said.

"The damp weather spells immediate devastation for gingerbread houses. The problem is the mild winter," spokesman at Sweden's leading gingerbread wholesaler Anna's, Aake Mattsson, told Swedish news agency TT.

Gingerbread houses are a popular Christmas tradition in Sweden and across the Nordic countries, with many people buying slabs of pre-baked gingerbread from stores which they decorate and stick together using icing sugar and brightly coloured confectionery.

While much of Sweden is usually gripped by freezing temperatures and heavy snow in December, southern parts of the country have recorded their mildest start to the month for decades.

In recent days Anna's has received some 40 complaints from angry customers whose carefully crafted gingerbread houses have collapsed.

As a seasoned gingerbread expert with 41 years in the business, Mattsson urged hopeful gingerbread architects to heat the ready-baked slabs in the oven briefly prior to assembly to remove any remaining moisture.

The risk of subsidence was also reduced if builders overcame the temptation to smother their cookie houses in excessive amounts of icing sugar.

"Too much (icing sugar) can result in dampness ... . It's a common problem," Mattsson told TT

It's disgusting, I agree it's harsh but it's true, they don't have to be hookers they can get jobs like normal people, they are passing their aids around and some of them have kids, they are like junkies in my books.

Maybe you like them but I don't, I don't like seeing them wander the streets with skirts up there holes and looking like they have taken 5 e's and 2 lines of coke.

I am being harsh over this but why does it take them getting killed before they come off the streets? even without a serial killer on the loose it's still very dangerous, they are all setting bad examples for younger girls and they are passing around god knows how many diseases yet everyone worries about them, it doesn't make sense.

Anyway about the gingerbread men, surely they expected this to happen when making things from food? I wonder if they will re-make it all.

To be honest there, so are digging yourself a deeper hole there. Just because you dont like them because of the way they look, dress, smell whatever they dont deserve them comments.

And no i dont need them and never used them!, nor really do i have a problem with them. It is the government who create's all of this. If they were legal then alot of this would not happen. Yes i agree with you that Aids is bad, but the men should saddle up before taking the ride. Just imagine for one minute that if there were none - there would be more rapes full stop. And remember that this service is the oldest profession in the world! I'm not championing it, just not going to make comments that women deserve to die because of what they do. The victim is the murderer(s) - as he/she/they are clearly the one's that need help - copying The Yorkshire Ripper.

But remember aswell - that these women and girls need help. Why do you think they take the drugs? It's to block out the pain from doing their work - i dont believe for one minute they enjoy what they do and if they do, then they are liar's

Government don't create it, it's girls who can't wait to earn some easy cash that create it, why does the government have anything to do with it? shall we all set up a donation fund to give them money? even though they can easily get a job.

Making it legal would make the problem 10 times worse, also I don't mean they deserve to die I messed up on that comment, it sounded sick but what I meant to say was well done for making them see sense, it's hard to explain but as I said above it's great when it takes murders for them to realise the streets ain't safe.

They need help yes, like millions of other people including battered wives and abused children, what can children do when they get abused? nothing, these prostitutes can help themselves but why? they make good money for doing something that comes natural.

I honestly don't care about them though, if they need help they can get it, it seems they don't want the help but instead are after easy cash, I obviously don't want to see them get killed as they probably have kids but at the same time I won't feel sorry for them whatever happens, they all know this "job" has its dangers and they don't care.

I agree with Lens in that NO ONE no matter profession, race, sex etc etc... deserves to die in the way these girls are... its a disgrace that someone could be so mentally disturbed to act out such crimes...
