Just signed-up to BT broadband, and I should get the Wireless Adaptor in twenty-eight days, the website said.

BT, ouch.

Good luck, Kubrick. You can expect nothing after 28 days, complete incompetence from their call centre employees, then constant ignoring of any letters or e-mails you send in complaint. All in all, they're a disgraceful company.

Which is why, after over a month of absolutely no progress, we're switching to Sky.

I can actually agree on that as I am a BT customer (still) and had loads of problems with them. They have incompetent staff spouting unbelievable nonsense on the end of the phone. Out of 12 calls I spoke to 2 people who knew what the hell I was on about and one of them was the bloody engineer. I sent an email and didn't get a response until 8 days later which in itself was pointless and fell on deaf ears. If I hadn't have had my broadband sorted out on that fateful monday afternoon then I was considering tv programmes like Watchdog and The Ferret to get it sorted for me, since the customer service I recieved was absolutely disgraceful.

So if you can get a good deal from them and encounter no problems then best of luck to you guys but remember if you have a problem and I mean this good luck in sorting it out. Yes I do know BT have millions of satisfied customers and no I'm not one of them.

Kubrick are you getting the Home Hub?

Home hub will give you even more problems. The amount of people I know that have them that have reported worse speeds since that has been installed is worrying.

Anybody wanting to switch ISP should try an Entanet reseller or Xifos. Not the cheapest by any means but the service levels are excellent.

I got the wireless hub.

It downloaded Ghost Recon Chapter 2 (700 hundred odd megabytes) off of the marketplace swiftly, I have to admit. But, my English compatriots, when it comes to the broadband blues, I will warble loudest. You might think BT is bad, but, probably, you haven't experienced Eircom (Irish equivalent of BT). Now, I haven't experienced Eircom Broadband, but that's the problem with Eircom Broadband: I can't connect to broadband in my local area in Ireland.

Eircom have deliberately held back broadband, because they were making huge gains on dial-up from various companies and homes throughout the country. A company which I worked for, were paying bills of up to a thousand euros a month for internet charges. So, to Eircom, it wasn't beneficial to connect most areas outside of the cities, which are few and far between.

The Irish government could do nothing, because Eircom was sold off on the stock-market a few years earlier.

The European Union forced Eircom to introduce a '150 hours for 30 euro' deal for dial-up users; they wouldn't have offered this to dial-up customers otherwise. Also, Eircom were obliged to provide a certain amount of national coverage; otherwise, the European Union would fine them, which probably is the case wth all EU countries. The threat of fines saw Eircom offering lurative broadband deals every three months (a free Xbox was on offer a few times). And they used an ad campaign which used Queen's song 'Nothing to stop me now' (note the dramatic irony).

At least they [BT] provide Broadband.

i am the only person who has had nothing but perfect service from BT.
I get notified my broadband has gone from 512mb to 1gb, then up to 2.2gb.

Every problem ive had (both of them in 3-4 yrs) has been sorted on the day. I must be lucky.

Homehub is wireless.

This thing yeh? But without the phone attachment.
Me and a couple of mates have the home hub. One of them just chucked it under his bed as it keeps cutting out. Mine does it about 3 times everyday and the connection constantly re-syncs which is really annoying and the speed can be 5MB one day and drop down to 4MB. I have to phone BT about this as I was told I would be getting 7MB buy the BT engineer.

I'm thinking about BT @the moment...never had a problem with them before? And please remember, most ISP's require a BT line to operate!

If I could get cable I would. It's been a long time since we have even used BT as a phone provider because their prices are not the best. But we had BT midband and they cancelled that service without contacting us so Dad just got lazy and stayed with them. Nice to know my weeks or research and printouts went to waste.

Although you need a BT line and most of the network uses BT Wholesale Lines, there are a few out there who provide their own equipment and backbone onto the central pipelines bypassing the BT ADSL ones. You get better pings, ideal for gaming and downloading.

If you want to see how well your ISP rates Click Here (http://www.dslzoneuk.net/isp_ratings.php)
