This is the email I sent to play.com's customer service department to vent my anger at being let down for not being notified early enough that I wasn't going to get a 360.
Dear Customer Services,
As a regular buyer of products on your website I am not happy with the
service I have recieved regarding the purchase of an xbox 360. By
preordering the premium pack £279 on the 30th of august which is quite early
for most online retailers (as I am aware from most xbox 360 forums nad
retailers alike) I would have expected better communications on what was
happening due to the fact of the much known shortages (an error on
microsofts part). All I wanted to know was if I was going to recieve a
console to which I telephoned about on the wednesday. They couldn't give me a direct answer which is not and wasn't acceptable. There were 2 things I was offered to do, (1) wait and hope I was one of the "lucky ones" or (2)
cancel the order. I opted for option 1. I checked my status regularly and
decided to stick in there. But in the end it has left me in a state of
dismay and limbo. If I'd known that I was not getting a console then I may
have been able to sort out another retailer but since I didn't recieve an
email (mentioning the shortage/and if I didn't get a dispatch email) til
after 8pm wednesday 30/11/05. I've found it impossible to say the least to
get a replacement console.
According to most sources (internet and retailers) I won't be able to get
one until 2006, as your representative mentioned on the telephone. I am
extremely unhappy that I will not get my xbox 360 yet you are able to give
one away on a competition on another website, www.pesfan.com. So you have
failed to meet my consumer needs and infuriate me further with the news of
the competition. Infuriated is not an appropriate word, there isn't a word
in the english dictionary to describe the feeling at this moment in time. I
feel I will have to review my situation and maybe the only solution will be
to take my business elsewhere in the future. I would like a reply to this
matter if you would be so kind.
Yours a disgruntled
