Has anyone else had any problems with one? I am in the middle of taking mine apart to get my power cable out of it as its stuck in there

Well I got the cable out from it and the part where the power cable goes into the fan is all burnt, bugger that

I took mine apart but due to it sounding horrendous...had to move the fan spindle bits, put more padding inbetween the fans and the casing and some between the Intercooler and the 360.....now it sounds loud when it starts up but settles down after a minute or so.

Hope it's not left any scorch marks on your 360 or PSU as if they have to be returned to MS they'll apparently void your warranty and return your stuff untouched.

The actual bit that has burnt is the cable that goes into the back of the fan from the power box thing, the actually part of the fan that goes into in the Xbox and the Xbox itself is fine, Im going to take it back to Argos tomorrow morning and have a go at them to try and get a new cable as I have already had to return my first xbox after one day of owning it....
EDIT:
Does anyone know if I can just simply buy a new cable?

Nyko will replace everything, I think.

Im going to see what Argos do first, if I could get Call Of Duty 3 out the disc drive I would take the whole thing back and not mention having a Intercooler, but I dont want to move the whole console with a game in there, bloody awkward thing

Well Argos gave me a new cable so bascially just wasted a whole console, and they also got another 40 off me for GOW so good day overall

The majority of people it seems have had no problems with these so I've dug out a few intercoolers for people to have a look at and order if they so wish.

Gamexpert Cooler King £17.99 (http://playcom.at/360monster?DURL=http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/GENBRW/3-/3272955/Gamexpert_Cooler_King/Product.html)

Nyko Intercooler 360 £14.99 (http://playcom.at/360monster?DURL=http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/GENBRW/3-/1138504/Nyko_Intercooler_360/Product.html)

Xbox 360 Cooling Fan With 3 Green LED Fans £9.99 (http://playcom.at/360monster?DURL=http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/GENBRW/3-/3257063/Xbox_360_Cooling_Fan/Product.html)

Pretty much, I'd say that anything that uses the USB port for power is safer than anything that puts itself in between the power brick and the console.

Is there any point in having an external fan?

From what ive read on here and different site etc it seems like they're quite a risk and to be honest I don't even know what the point in owning one is?

As the 360 has its own fan anyway (loud enough!!) what benefit do you get out of adding an extra one? If the 360 overheats with just the standard fan then surely you would be covered by your warranty, where as if you add an extra one there's a risk it might not be.

Basically im just wondering what the fans actually do (i know they cool it more!!) to improve the gaming experience?

cheers

You may need to provide ventilation to your Xbox 360 if your room or the area in which your Xbox 360 occupies doesn't provide it enough on it's own.

Generally you won't need to provide any additional equipment for Xbox 360 ore any other electrical equipment however if you are having overheating or concenred about the temperatures your Xbox 360 or other equipment is reaching it's a very ideal solution and fairly cheap.

If you can Check the Room Temperature and Humidity and then compare it to the recommend temperatures for Storage and Use which you will find in the Xbox 360 manual. Otherwise just go on natural instincts.

Also remember most modern electrical equipment isn't designed to be Powered On fully for Long Periods of Time, especially when Internal Fans are spinning for long hours this may cause dust to enter the Xbox 360 which can cause damage further down the line.

there we go then, cheers bud.

Think mine is ok. Had it a year now and only crashed a handful of times. I just open the doors to the cabinet its in whenever i play and i'd cut a big hole in the back of it to let air get in as well.

Er....... yes I forgot about the 10 posts rule. There is another one that Blaze Lord pointed out too called the Pelican Fan stand.

Also this thread is about the intercoolers too so I will merge it with the other thread.

they all look pretty good but for now i might just stick to my DIY 'hole in cabinet' technique!!

Might think about getting one when i get the HD-DVD Drive though

the pelican stand is the best all round - if you stand your 'box upright....

No chance, that would be admiting they made a console that over heated.

The intercooler is the worst thing you can possibly buy, its $25 into the toliet.
I bought one back when they were $20 and now one of the fans doesn't move and its makes a horrendous noise.(N)

I got one for Xmas, works perfectly fine. The only reason i got one is because the 360 heats up after a long play. The intercooler keeps it nice and cool. The noise i can put up with.
