I'm at the end of my rope. I've followed all of Cox's (my ISP) suggestions for hooking up via a router.
The issue(s) are the following:
1.) I can browse the web on my PC, play games, download content, etc.
2.)I can log-on to Xbox Live, download patches, send messages etc. It will occasionally disconnect but not in every session.
3.) I can attempt to play online with a game like Call of Duty 2 and 3 (just an example), I can see the games that are available with the amount of players etc.
4.) What I CANNOT do is join a game. I will attempt to join, at first it'll look like its going to happen but then it drops me back and says "there are no games available". There ARE games because I can see them and join them if....
5.) I plug the Xbox directly into the modem and reset the modem by via the reset switch.
Its obviously a conflict between the router and Cox's network. This is the 3rd router I purchased in hopes that one of them would work. All were name brand, all were on Microsoft's list of compatible routers for the Xbox online service. The modem is a Cox issued Motorola 5101 surfboard so thats not the problem. The need to direct hook-up and reset the modem each time in order to play has been necessary since the first Xbox came out in 2001. As per usual the 1st tier support people were of no help with anything beyond the usual script they're given which solved nothing. I tried several different port forwarding attempts with the last router I had and all I ended up doing was make my PC gaming sessions an unstable mess.
To put it succinctly I need advice.....and an aspirin :s
someone....anyone......help.
