Easy, just sync it to the 360 like you did to the first Controller.

Like Killer pointed out once you get your extra controllers just sync/bind them to each other. This is done by Holding Down the Button on Top of the Wireless Controller next to the Charge Connector and Below the Memory Unit slot on the Xbox 360 Console for a Couple of seconds.
I'm sure it mentions it in the leaflets you get with the Controller.

Before you send it back, why don't you tell us the exact process you're doing. Walk us through what you're doing step by step.

Sure,
power up base unit. insert battery pack into ctrllr one. press the "X" button on first controller - it flashes in a circular pattern . I press the small sync' button on the base unit which does similar. after a few seconds the controller light settles in the top left corner. Bingo - I have a synched controller and all is well. all buttons work etc and i can play a game fine.
I then try to add a second controller performing exactly the same routine as before, the controller fails to sync' retry several times - fiddle with battery pack etc - no joy - do exactly the same routine with a third controller - same results.
If i pull the batteries out of the first controller and then attempt to sync; with one of the previously non synching controllers it works !!!???
same routine with the third controller ... result = i cannot sync more than one controller at any one time. pointless having three controllers hence going back in the morning. Have tried shutting down everything and started fresh - no change. Maybe leave it till morning - let the elves have a go maybe.

If I'm not mistaken your meant to:
-Power Up Second Controller (By either Holding Start or Guide Button)
-Hold Down Binding Button on the Controller
-Hold Down Binding Button on Xbox 360
-Then Release after a couple of seconds
-Then they should be Paired.
Not sure why you are pressing the X button though.

So.. You aren't using the sync button that's on the controller? The sync button on the controller is different than the Guide ("X" button). It's the small white one that's literally on the top of the controller, not near the top and on the face.
Not sure why you are pressing the X button though.
He meant the Guide, not the blue X. He's new to the 360, doesn't know the proper name for it yet.

Since when was the X button green? Thank you, phat.
And no, I don't think he has just one battery pack, Thorn. He said he takes the batteries out of the first one and then tries the second. I don't think he means switches the battery pack to the second.
