Both Universal and Fox Studios have pulled out of the Halo movie adaptation, citing rising movie costs and concern over the inexperience of first time director Neil Blomkamp. As the budget was rumored to be edging closer to $200 million, and Microsoft getting a lion's share of the profits, the studio execs decided it was time to pull the plug.
Oh dear, the one game movie that was looking good, and it's now dead. Not good news.

Also this means no Halo game from PJ... I was interested in that.. :'-(

Both the movie and the game are still happening.

Where did you get that idea from?

Vanity explcitly states that Jackson's studios in NZ are still doing pre-production work, with MS footing the bill for that. They're just shopping around for a new distributor now is all. It's possible that they won't find one, but to say it's dead is premature.

And Jackson's Wingnut Studios still has a great relationship with MS, that isn't where the strife was, so I can't imagine the game not happening.

Ugh, my m8 posted this on his blog and I believed it was dead.. sorry.

He says Fox and Universal aren't just the distributors, they are the ones making the movie and they are the only ones with big enough budgets. And that MS didn't pay anything yet..

And if that's true, how would they keep going? I don't suppose it'd be that easy finding a studio willing to do a budget like that..

i cant see it being that hard to find a studio to do a movie on one of the most popular games ever, and that has peter jacksons name attached to it.

but you never know

There are plenty of other studios besides Fox and Universal. Microsoft isn't prepared to pay the $200 million, but they are prepared to pay a couple million to keep pre-production alive.

People have already been signed to the project. Courting any others of the Big Ten won't be that hard (except for MGM, of course, for obvious reasons).

One of my mates on my friends list told me the exact same thing earlier linkofhyrule but I said I doubt they would just simply pull the plug on it. Glad to hear I wasn't the only one who heard it though.

I think a movie could disappoint a lot of people. I would steer clear of a movie regarding a video game franchise.

That's the Only Problem I've ever found....

Games don't Make Good Movies
...and Movies don't make Good Games

I'm sure there's exceptions and hopefully Halo will be aswell but we will wait and see. I'm sure there is going to be a Movie for this Franchise sooner or later if not now.

I bet Bill would get the $200 mil by just checking down his sofa.

I hope it still goes ahead...I was hoping it to be the 1st great game to movie.
