View Full Version : MMORPG Game Idea

I had a cool idea for a game awhile ago (right after I read about the Huxley videogame, which possibly inspired me). Here it is...

Earth. Post-apocolyptic period after the bombs. In the early 22nd century, tension arose concerning Earth's remaining resources. Europe and North America fought for control over precious oil and water. Cargo ships were intercepted, their crews either killed on contact or taken hostage. Soon the entire world was facing a famine, without the proper resources to survive. A nuclear war eventually broke out and continued for a short period of time, until the world was wiped clean of life. Except for us. The survivors. Some may say we now have a chance to start fresh, and new. In my opinion, at least for now, all we can do is survive. And to survive we must stand together.

The game would be a great MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game). You would have the option to join, choose a "continent" in which to spawn, then find a group as quickly as you can and stick with them. If you don't join quickly, they're more likely to kill you and take your equipment. So you join a group (which consists of all human players), and, just like it said in the description, try to "start anew". Remake the Earth. In the beginning, the whole area everyone plays in is ruined (possibly some ruined cities, i.e. deserted scyscapers to make a base in, etc.). I think it'd be cool if the sky was constantly orange. Just a dull, far-away look. And of course the moon. Now, when you have a big enough group, or, if you're skilled enough, city, you can try to move into other towns and take them over from other players. You can steal their vehicles, which can be obtained by, say, searching old wrecked military complexes for Hummers, etc., and can salvage other things, such as weapons. And of course design your base to be safer, such as being walled in with crenellations for AA guns to shoot through, etc., with the main living quarters inside the base. The group could be mostly military, but you could get a gunsmith to obtain metals to create guns with, etc. And when you become advanced enough, you could get into projects such as planes and jetpacks and such. You could have a medical tent, etc...design different armor...and you could keep communication by radio if you've conquered more than one town.

Sounds good eh? Just don't copy it.

Intresting, it does sound alot like Huxely Im not sure if that is a good or bad thing. I like the Idea of taking over cities as a clan. Over all a good concept. (Y)

It's more a group/clan oriented MMO...I'm not to sure about being forced into joining a group/clan as I know that a lot of MMO players like to solo it from beginning to end and pretty much do their own thing instead of having to be comitted to a clan. The continent thing is good, seeing as how most MMOs need two major sides.

I'd give this game a go. A nice alternative to the medieval weaponry and magic that's going around in MMOs these days..

A game like this would benifit from some sort of resource management,to give everyone a reason to keep trying to take over towns and cities. Some sort of economy. I think this would help the game from not becoming another PlanetSide.

Thanks for the positive feedback (everyone), and I guess the only alternative to "go it alone" would be to get strong enough within your clan to protect yourself out in the world. Imagine that. How cool, man! Drivin' along a deserted plain when a bunch of bandits come along and you outrun them (or mow them with the attached AA gun to your Humvee). Then take their stuff.

EDIT: I think most players would get used to the clan/group idea of the game, having knowledge that it's real players out there ready to kill you. It's not like it's San Andreas, where if you go out-of-bounds you get a four-star wanted level and eventually die.

EDIT: No-one ever said you'd be forced into joining a group/clan, simply that it is recommended. Punishable by death, really. And also, as stated earlier, it would be good to have an almost AOE/AOK/AOM...etc. kind of economy tied into controlling your city. Such as money spent on projects such as building innovative new weaponry, etc. And of course you'd need food to survive, and, possibly to keep your energy up, sleep. So a The Sims twist could be involved there as well. I really think it'd be fun to raid other clans' bases at any time, though. Think about it: Make a convoy of Humvees, maybe (if you're advanced and wealthy enough) a tank, then lay waste to their base and pillage their supplies. Maybe even take survivors prisoner. Although I don't know how anyone else'd wanna save them...unless they had ties to a more powerful clan.

Sounds good enough to me I'd probably try it.

Thanks for the compliment, but as you read, it's post-apocolyptic (?) wartime, set in the future. An MMORPG Elder Scrolls; I considered entirely. But think about it: Seemingly dark and dangerous dungeons would become public meeting places; a quiet lake would turn into a harbor. And screen-names like "chickenblaster44" would be above everyone's head and it would get out of control. I guess the same could be said for this MMORPG, but there would hardly be any lakes after a nuclear war, or a dungeon; and the vastness it takes to cross into enemy territory would be made super-dangerous, even for a convoy. But cool idea, though. I'm not trying to cut it down at all, that's just my opinion on it.

EDIT: Oh wait you said Elder Scrolls esq I'm sorry! But same principals apply.

Oh i agree with you whole heartedly. i just think being able to live it in 1st/3rd person would be great. going in first hand into this world. Just my thought.

Hopefully there's some Devs floating around the forums and pick-up on this thread...hopefully he/she'll mention it at the next board meeting..

who knows.. In 2-3 year's time we'll be seeing this game on the shelves

Oh man...I am very happy at the response to this idea! I'd be kind of dissapointed that I couldn't help take part in creating this game though...heck, I told my friend about this idea at like 3:30 in the morning when we were watching Black Hawk down. Got some of the ideas from that movie, actually. Like the Humvees and such. And even the whole city's layout. Very close to what I was picturing in my head.

Also, what's up with the new "layout" of the pages? It shows like your Gamertag and everything...how come I don't have one?!! What must I do to obtain it man?!!

Also I see now what you mean (Domfunkle). About the whole ES thing. Cool, cool.
