View Full Version : If you hear thunder turn EVERYTHING OFF!
The power just surged in are little cottage.
Heres what is now screwed up.
My PC is fine. Because my PSU is so big my PC stayed on.
My sisters lights wont turn off. The transformer is busted and dad has just had to cut the wires.
My 360 spazzed out and showed the 3 red rings of doom. Thats nothing... heres the worst part.
MY MEMORY UNIT IS BORKED. ALL MY SAVE GAMES ARE GONE... ALL GONE.

Did it strike your house then?! Insane. That happened to me once, but nothing got damaged. Too bad about your memory unit, that sucks.

Why are your saves on a memory card instead of the Hard drive?
Cause of the DOA error. If you had a memory card it wouldnt wipe your profile. It was fixed a while back but ever since I have put all my saves on it. Apart from any games I no longer have.

That happened to me apart from the memory card bit:s I left my 360 off for an hour and it was fine. Hope you sort it out tobez

So the good news is I have a copy of all my save data on my PC. The double bad news is that the memory card worked on my pc which might mean that my 360s memory card ports are fried. Plus also I have just broken into a £15 memory card. £15 of which I do not have for a new one.
BUT ALL MY SAVE GAMES ARE ON MY PC... YEY!!!

With the tongue smiley I guess you know what use they are on my pc? If not here's why. I can buy a connectivity kit and transfer them back over to my HDD. Warranty not voided and Tob3z has his game saves back.

Well thats good, because now there are many different ways to get it, so you could always do the(If your MU Slots are fried), use MU to get saves from PC>your Hard Drive in your friends 360>Put MU into friends 360>Upload saves to Hard Drive>Put Hard Drive back on Tobez 360>Problem solved.

Couldn't you use something like a USB flash drive instead of a connectivity kit? I'm sure you could get one big enough for $5 or so.. much cheaper.
Horrible news btw Tob3z, I know how you feel, I have lost something like 5 PSU's and a motherboard on the same computer from storms.
360 wont pick up games saves on a USB drive.
I did recover my gamertag but that doesn't get your saves back. Just your profile. I have lost my custom gamerpic though :(

Oh man, I cannot begin to tell you how much I sympathise with you. I hope you can get everything back in order again as soon as possible, dude.
Fortunately, I've never had this problem myself. My desktop PC has a surge protector thingy set up for it... but all of the important stuff, i.e. the contents of my laptop hard disk are pretty vulnerable when the damn thing's plugged in, I guess. If I was to lose all that, I think I'd hang myself.

This Christmas I plan to buy 2 more HDDs and a massive portable hdd that will backup my important stuff on my PC everyday.

yeah lightning screwed up my router be4. it sucked.
Well it's my 360 :(
Phoned MS. 5 minute wait and by the sounds of it I get transferred to US call centre. 20 minutes of trying to spell my name to her got me slightly wizzed.... 30 more minutes trying to explain my MEMORY CARD DOES NOT WORK. IT IS NOT A XBOX LIVE PROBLEM ITS HARDWARE. Anyway I couldn't take it anymore. I had this on speakerphone and my mate looked like he was going to wet himself. So I hung up.
Phone again and a nice USA lady speaks to me. Understands my problem (at first she told me its not possible to save a online game, NO WAY!), asks me to try and save a game.
So naturally I put the phone on mute, sit back while I watch my mate play the demo Lumines. Fleeboi is hearing all the convo as well because I am using private chat. Tell her I cant save a game its only picking up my HDD. She says I have to send it off. They can't process this at the moment so I need to phone back in 24 - 48 hours. Damn.

Stops spikes and surges from blowing up your stuff. Basically it has loads of different fuses in it. Not allowing a massive change of voltage.

That was my attitude untill I had windows fail on me. I hate loosing Bookmarks, music and worse... photos. So these are all backed up. I firefox extension backs up my bookmarks every day which is such a life saver. Im looking for one for Thunderbird.

i have all my importand stuff on sprate hard drives so if i ever buy a new pc or somtihng breaks i can just plug them in and off i got.
mainly divx/xvid movies 400gb worth
To backup stuff? Not at the moment. Any program like Firefox etc I just use plugins. But when I order the Western Digital My Book it will update in real time. Only problem about this is viruses could spread more easily. But I have NOD32 monitoring all incoming data so it's not a problem.

It was years ago,i was playing Nights on the Saturn and was heading for a great score.
The misses ask`s me to pop down he shops as she needed some things for are then baby boy.
So i put the Saturn on Pause and head down the shops.
It`s raining hard and i hear a real clap of thunder a few times,i get the stuff we need and head home.
Just as i pull up on my driveway,the biggest flash of light i have ever seen almost blinds me and a almighty crack of sound.
Turns out the ariel on our house had been struck by lightning.
I go in and everything seems OK....except the TV and the Saturn..that are completly wasted.
You could smell a plasiticky(sp?) smell...but both were dead.
So i know what your going through...lightning sucks

I switch everything off and disconnect it from the mains. If it's still on standby (like the 360 ALWAYS is) then it still can get a powersurge.
Ugh. This is starting to tick me off. There should be a law that says a UK company must have a UK call center and not transfer to any other country.
I phoned up and I can barely hear the American women... it sounds like a radio not tuned in right. It's not my phone cause I could hear the automated response fine.

I agree as even if you could hear here, I personally find it difficult to understand accents that are not familiar, such as the American one. Nothing personal, well it is, but I prefer my own crowd.
As there is nothing more annoying then you having a problem and then literally have to spell out everything you say.
However why has this been posted here?
because I'm phoning up to get my 360 replaced....because of the lightening strike.. (i didnt tell them that though)

Hell no. I'm going to phone up. Complain. Tell them this is my 3rd unit and get them to give me free stuff.
OK well she didn't offer me any free stuff. I lied and told her the DVD drive is stuck. She told me to get a paper clip and start shoving it in holes to manually eject the drive. I know this works because that's what that tiny hole on PD drives are... but to tell your customers to do that...
I'm going to send a email and complain. This is bs. I have 1 more month left on my warranty and this is my 4th console...

Yea of course they will...As long as you brought it there you won't have a problem. They are as responsible as Microsoft they sold you the Product, it makes it awkward for them but alot easier for you.
There is no reason for people to contact MS...You can go straight to the Retailer. Enjoy!
Update. Thanks to BIG D I went to GAME today. Swapped it for a new one.
