Have any of you heard of the new totally legal drug called poppers im not sure if the police and government dont know about it yet because you can buy it in a shop near my house called hippiheaven and it contains the equivelent of half a gram of cocaine and makes everything go yellow. I was just woundering if it has made a apperance anywhere else yet it comes in a small glass bottle and as to be sniffed as it could kill you if you drink it.

they've been around forever, they're not new, they are mostly sold in ---- shops, they are used to 'loosen' you up down stairs

Amyl nitrite is also known as poppers, butyl nitrate, TNT, liquid gold, rush, ram, thrust, rock hard, kix.
The effects kick in almost immediately and you experience a brief, but intense head rush that begins to fade after 2-5 minutes.
It is illegal to sell amyl nitrites if they are to be inhaled, as this could then be termed a medicine and would be controlled under the Medicines Act.
So basically. You have to be a lame 14 year old to take them. Like phat said they supposedly loosen downstairs but it's mainly because the head rush makes you daised out. I get a head rush from standing up to fast after sitting down for a long period. You should try it. It's legal and free.

Apart from the last part. When I was 12 I watched my mates take it and thought it was extremely lame. They act like they are high. Believe me it doesn't make you high. Morphine. Now that makes you high.
lol ok tobez but i myself wont touch them neway plus the shop that sell them still keeps a fridge of magicmushrooms underthe till which they have been selling for years but have been recently made a A classdrug when not cooked

On the 18 July 2005 the Drugs Act 2005 came into force. The new law means that raw magic mushrooms, as well as those that are dried or prepared, are now classified as Class A drugs.
Possession of magic mushrooms could lead to up to seven years in jail and an unlimited fine. Supplying someone else with magic mushrooms could get you life imprisonment and an unlimited fine. It is illegal to import, export, produce, supply, possess or possess with intent to supply magic mushrooms, in any form. It is also illegal to supply growing kits.
In the past only dried and prepared magic mushrooms were illegal because they contained high levels or the Class A chemical psilocybin. Now raw mushrooms that contain psilocybin are also illegal. This law has come in to halt the sale of raw magic mushrooms by commercial vendors.

Then again i just read what I copied from BBC and they never claimed they have higher levels when dried.

I suppose. But saying A is illegal (but not B) because A has high levels of X definitely gives one (at least, gives me) the impression that B does not have those "high" levels of X.
In truth, I suspect the real reason why dried shrooms were criminalized before fresh is because it is easier to sell/deal/distribute the dried form. Seems more tied up with practicality than science or health.
edit: I don't think you're wrong for posting/quoting/believing the BBC, I think the reporter/editor is wrong for writing a slightly misleading statement.

Yeh I bet your right there. I don't agree with the system anyway... well I agree but don't like the way the that are enforced (or lack of). Countless times I have been asked if I know where to get some (X) or if I want some (X). Watching/smelling what people are smoking. The only thing I haven't seen is needle drugs where I lived. Which is a good thing.
I don't agree with them because I don't know why people use them. It's the same as smoking to me.

They've been around since the sixties what they are an afrodissiearc supposedly for couples do you know they kill about hundred thousand brain cells for each sniff,and you might have a real bad headACHE if you keep persuing the stuff up your hotter.
It's legal but it's bad .(N)

Not really. There are bad inhalents out there, but this kind of misinformation serves no one. It's worst effect seems to be sociobehavioral, in that since they are often used in conjuction with sex, partners are less likely to use protection. For a while, poppers were looked at as an actual, direct cause for AIDS.
Poppers also suppress the immune system, particularly in how the body can fight off tumors.
Poppers also, in huuuuge doses, can contribute to too much nitrate in the system, leading to nitrite, leading to a disorder which ruins hemoglobin.
As a general rule of thumb, whenever you hear that drug X kills Y number of brain cells, it's a good idea to have some skepticism and look towards peer-reviewed medical journals, which you should be able to search electronically at your local public library. More often than not, the brain cell line is just a standard scare tactic approach to misinformation, and is usually only backed up by pseudoscience. Pseudoscience that rarely, if ever, gets into a peer reviewed journal.

I'm looking through my school's online journal database right now. At the moment, I'm glancing at a study done last year in the UK (ahem), where they have 15 volunteers inhaling poppers. Believe me, if every pull caused that much brain damage, they'd never get approval from their oversight board to do that test. I'll keep looking though..
Hmm. Apparently, Amyl nitrite is a standard treatment for cyanide poisoning. Interesting.
Here's one that doesn't mention anything about cell death at all, but simply talks about certain neuro-chemicals being in decreased number after ten or thirty minutes of continuous inhaling. Oh, and, apparently the numbers return to normal after a half hour. Which is entirely expected for a drug that gets you high (after all, how else would it work?).
We don't have online access to the Journal of psychedelic drugs, I'll have to check the library's print holdings next week. But, as of right now, I'm extremely confident that your "proven fact" is not proven at all.
