Hard drive "only" 14 GB space ????

i have a new xbox360. i have canceled all videos and songs on the hard drive and it shows only 14 GB free space. i thought it should be a 20 GB hard drive........... any idea ? what about the 6GB reserved for what ?

Some is reserved for System Use, such a BC Updates and other stuff.

No point complaining it's not going to change...


The total capacity of the Xbox 360 Hard Drive is 20 GB. Of this amount, approximately 7 GB is reserved for system use. Approximately 4 GB of that portion is reserved for game title caching and other hard drive-specific elements in games that support the hard drive, and an additional 2 GB is reserved for use by the Xbox 360 backwards-compatibility software. This leaves you with almost 14 GB of free space, rounded down to 13 GB in the Dashboard, to save game files, downloadable content and music, and other media.

Depending on the market, the hard drive comes preloaded with content, such as videos and Live Arcade games. Therefore, actual free space on a new hard drive may be 11 to 12 GB.

Your lucky, I got 12GB and made it into 13GB once I deleted the content my hardrive came with.

But yeah it's a bit of a bummer but it's not the end of the world.

same as a computer, if its a 250GB hard drive you wont get that, i got 13 gb :D

What you've got a 250Gb labelled Hard Drive and you can only get 13Gb, you got ripped off. Complain! :p

Theres stuff reserved for system use like the emulation software for original xbox games, then you have the problem where a Gb is actually 1024Mb but on hard hard drive of only 20Gb it doesn't make that much difference, half a gig maybe.

think i had 13 aswell, 14 without the videos and a few themes you get with the console. got about 5 left tho now from all the demos i got :D
