I didn't know you could use an adaptor to change from digital to analog audio so easily, and it seems like that's what you're trying...?

Does the official VGA cable come with anything besides the optical audio? Like.. the red/white RCA? My MadCatz VGA does.

The Official VGA Cable comes with a RCA Adapter and a VGA Gender Changer that's it... Nothing what so ever with the Optical Audio

Well, the MadCatz comes with both, so I'll assume that's what Headshot's using. If so, just go out and snag an RCA/Stereo-mini adapt. That'll set you right.

hes not using madcatz, he uses regular cables.

Big D just said the official cable doesn't come with an optical audio out, so, either you're wrong, Bigcon, or D is.

Well I'm not as I've got the Official Xbox 360 HD VGA Cable...

I didn't think you were, but I didn't want to completely burn Bigcon in one post. Anyways, I think this is once again proof of 'con posting on a thread without reading... any of it?

The official MS cable pics show a socket for digital audio out, which I expected as I'm sure they said that 5.1 support is mandatory for games (but don't quote me).....so they won't release a cable without a suitable 5.1 output.

And you won't get a simple physical connector to convert Toslink to analogue mini jacks, to a digital optical mini jack yes but that won't help you, for the digital to analogue you will need a conversion box.

This leads me to believe that you're just a little confused about it...show pics and we'll help.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, and I am a REAL novice at the audio stuff, but I have a "hum" when I plug the Xbox 360 into my TV. It is an Akai LCD, but it is not HD; I bought the S Video 360 cable because it has an S video plug, but I still get the "hum". Has anyone had the same problem?

Does S-Video carry sound..? I thought you had to use something else for sound with S Video?

mjmaskrey

S-Video is for picture only (carries seperate Chroma and Luma) so for audio you must be using using either 2 RCA stereo jacks or the digital Toslink connector....which one??

I have the MS 360 cable connector that has an S-video connection as well. I don't know what a Toslink is, but the other connections on the cable I have has the red, white, and yellow connections as well as the S-video connection. I do know that the S-video is supposed to give me a better quality picture with an Un-HD TV though.

So, you're using those red and white cables for the sound..?

Si if you put SVHS and audio in you get the buzz.

Ok so take out the SVHS plug...does the audio alone buzz?

If you plug in the audio from any other source does it buzz?

I plug the yellow, red, and white in, and the S-video. I have tried NOT plugging the S-video in and it still buzzes. My system came with the HD cables and I thought that was the problem since my TV is not HD. I haven't tried plugging another audio device into the TV--is that what you are asking?

mjmaskrey

Yes....to see if teh buzz is related to the 360 AV cable or the TV....if another source buzzes then it's the TV if another source doesn't buzz it's the 360 cable.

i know... but theres another thing, with 1 for video, 2 for sound + you can either plug teh 3 in, or put them through an adaptor. obvisusly non of this is on the 360 so you havent got a clue!

Red, white, -and- yellow? Hmm. Well, first off, the yellow is video. If you're using S-Video, you don't need the yellow cable plugged in. But that probably isn't causing you're buzzing, since you say it still buzzes without the S. Do what MJ says and that way you can figure out if it's the cables or the tv.

And, stupid question, you do have the sound on the TV on a reasonable level, and the right source selected, right? Because turning the volume all the way up without any sound actually going to the TV will make the TV amplify and play nothing but normal background noise, which might be the buzzing. But I doubt that's what you're doing.
