My mates just turnt my 360 on loaded up call of duty went into a online game looby and the screen went blue with a checkered pattern in the background and it crashed. So we turnt it off and back on again and the red ring came up so i thought it had over heated, but it wasn't hot at all.

What other things could be wrong?

Goto www.xbox.com/support (http://www.xbox.com/support)

Red Rings Issue is there, it gives you a couple of things you could do before contactig Xbox Support by Telephone. It might be a simple issue otherwise it might time for your mates Xbox 360 to meet his maker.

How many red lights did you get.

unplug all cables and plug it again after a few minuts start up.

take a look on the power brick, if its dust on the holes on both ends blow it away, check the back and the sides of the 360 too.

Padds did this, take the HDD away too and start the 360 for while, turn it off HDD in place again and restart.

When mine did that on CoD, I had to send it away, as it wouldn't come back on. :(

Checkered screen=bad news. Motherboard is gone or is going. Both my previous 360's have done this in either red, blue or green (rgb) patterns. Seriously this is a problem and it might be worth ringing M$ for advice now.
