How do I convert .avi or .mpg to .flv?

You'll need a file converter software program. I'm sure someone can recommend a program for you. Any free trials would be helpful. Try doing a Google search I'm sure some converters will come up (Y).

I've tried "3" pay ones but they produced .flv files that were bairly watchable, plus the support teams never responded, so so far i've failed to find a useful one.

Try searching download.com. You'll probably only find limited trails though (:/)
