Okay now I have tried to just play Dynasty Warriors 5, and I can't because it won't load due to how many god damn scratches it has recieved. I am amazed that you guys keep your CD's in "mint" condition, which is what you all seem to say when you trade games. I just checked my THAW CD and you won't believe how bad it is, thousands (yes thoursands) of scratches can be seen on it and I have no idea why it still works.
So why am I getting all these scratches guys? I've only had Dynasty Warriors a couple of weeks and I've taken great care of it, just seems that the inside of my 360 is grinding away at it causes scratches, which then leads to me not being able to play my games.
Please guys help me. :(
Just checked my Outfit CD and it's only got 1 scratch on, which is making me get so confused. :'(

Well I've found that the majority of my discs never get scracthes, however my Call of Duty 2 disc has tons of scractches and it still plays perfectly. I don't know how it's got so many but it has.... as long as it's still playing then I ent got a problem.
If your disc is less than 90 Days Old then you should be able to get a Free Replacement from the Manufactuer otherwise you might have to pay a small fee.

So do certain games have a certain type of resistance to scratches?
And am going to check now BIG D, thanks.

Not as far as I know but it the manufacturing of the disc is to blame the disc can be more brittle and prone to damage.
However like eveything else it's upto the Manufactuer to determine whether or not the disc is at fault. I know that EA have £10 on replacing damaged discs no matter what the cause was.

From what I've read it is better to have your 360 in a horizontal position rather than a vertical one. It causes less scratches to game discs. How true that is I do not know for certain but mine is at a horizontal base anyway.

Mine is in a horizontal position. :(

Errr... I have mine vertically and it hasn't scratched a disc yet :s
JJBDude
28/Aug/06, 03:36 AM
I might test it out vertically then, it's just I get scared I'd knock it over, by lets say a wire being pulled and then the disc inside my 360 will be screwed.

Yeah agree there. Had mine vertical a couple of times and i have deep scratches on 2 games.
I never have it vertical.
Ring M$ as it might be a problem with your laser (ie not set in postion correctly) or it could be the drive itself. If it's done it to serveral games then there is a problem. Apart from the two games that are damaged - my games are in perfect cond.
I would love it though if cartridges could make a comeback. I loved the feel of a cartridge - really felt as if you held something special in your hands! - or is that just me and i am a bit weird?

Something I will say is DO NOT turn your console from verticle to horizontal when its running and theres a game inside. BIG MISTAKE!

I ought to check my discs as i've only ever had my x-box in teh vertical position (no space for anything else)

Thats what I meant to put in my post as well I knew I forgot something when I read back through my post earlier (Y). Thats been reported to be one of the biggest causes of scratching to discs again from what I've heard.

As tidus04 experience the hard way, just got his 360 and within days did that and his Xbox 360 had fallen over, with Tomb Raider getting scratched inside lol.
I'll wait for my dad to see if he has any suggestions when I see him, but if not I might have to give Microsoft a call.
just put some neat fairy liqiud on it and rinse it off and wipe with a dust free cloth! but at your own risk maybe try a cd disc first lol always worked for me but my 360 discs are fine if not use one of those proper cleaning machine things from somewhere like asda/walmart!
JJBDude
28/Aug/06, 12:33 PM
Shouldn't be a risk, I will try it later. My dad told me you could leave a CD in water solutions for a week and it will still be in fine condition, as water doesn't effect the CD's condition. ^_^
let me know then if it worked for you too!

But yeah, I will post here anyway. :)

Well that article does make a good point especially when they highlight the warnings in the the manual...
The article explains what's the cause. It explains that new 360s stop this with the foam pads.
Also you are dumb enough to move your 360 whens it on then... well your dumb.
When I move anything electrical, even if it has no moving parts I turn it off. Hahaha no I do not mean I dont move a MP3 player

Cor it really does make a horrible sound. :|
Thing is I never move my 360 from differen positions, and the scratches I have are just placed everywhere randomly instead of perfect circular ones shown in the video. Only time my 360 gets moved is when I go from my mums house to my dads house. During this time the 360 is turned off, so surely no damage could be occured (no games are inside btw) right?

yeah my oblivion also magically got scratches too. all my other games are mint.
Very strange....
Maybe theres an evil gremlin inside your xbox? :D

An evil gremlin called SONY...!
i was playing pgr3 on live today and my 360 went quite then it said not able to read disc, i took it out and saw one long deep scratch in it, anyone know what could be causing this? ive only had my 360 a week ffs if it wa going to break why would it break so early? i didnt move the console of anything, it still works but now i cant trade it in at a later date, ive only had it a week or so and taken good care of it, and what are the chances of it happening again?

well you could try putting in a music cd you dont need in there and see if it scratches it
if not then it could be safe, but dont hold me to that

I have been inspecting my Test Drive disc for the past 2 days and it is definitely save to say that my Xbox 360 does scratch my games. Put it in yesterday brand new and it was fine, got it out and I didn't spot any scratches. Just checked now though after playing it for a few hours this morning and I see 5 or so small ones. I'm happy with 5, just better not get anymore.
jjb dude does your console go quite then say unable to read disc? because thats what mine did.
JJBDude
09/Sep/06, 02:43 PM
Yep. Whenever I put in Dynasty Warriors it trys to work and is noisy but then suddenly goes very quiet. Bout 5-10 seconds later I get a guide message popping up saying the disc is unreadable. :(
yep thats exactly what happened to my pgr3 this morning, ive emailed MS support telling them, ill wait for there respone. I really hoped i wouldnt have to get a replacement 360 a week after buying it :S

I went and checked on xbox.com/support and I read some useful things. 25% of the time the problem is saved data on your hardrive, I haven't deleted my saves yet though because I don't want to lose my data. :(
Let me know what they say please.
ok will do, i suppose i havent really played much on pgr3 and loosing the save wouldnt be too bad, but i would prefer not to.

I think you've just not been lucky, few of my games have done it in the past, just keep swtiching the console on and off and eventually will work. :)
they replied but it was all a load of crap, the same stuff as on the website. And i got the disc is unreadable thing again, and another round scratch, i dont think i can play pgr3 anymore because of that. What should i do, ive got the receipt and warranty, but i got it from argos and they are just thick with most stuff, will they replace the game and the console and not just get a refurb?
ok on the argos site it says this:
f there's a fault with the product...
We've made it easier!
* If you bring it back to us within 30 days with your proof of purchase*, we'll give you a replacement or a refund.
* If you've had the product for up to 1 year, we'll repair the product or, if that's not possible, give you a replacement or, if that's not possible, a refund.
* This does not affect your statutory rights.
should be ok because ive purchased it in the last 30 days and have the recept, do u think i should return it now? or get another game to see if it works? personnally i dont want to take any chances. And if i keep the hardrive they might give me a new one.

I have a problem with disc scratching aswell, sometimes I hear the disc spinning like crazy and then a loud horrible noise suddenly happens and I cringe.
This weird blotch marks then appear on the disc aswell, but the strange thing is, I can wipe them off if I do it carefully.

Just clean your discs regulary, always remove the game if you physicaly move the console. Ensure the game is in the case when removed.
My xbox makes funny noises now and again but it wont damage the disc. Just relax and play you wont notice anything then. If your looking for a scratched disc...youll get one:|

make sure your 360 isnt at an angle, make sure its flat. less likely to get scratched (Y)
i have honestly done all these things, it seems to happen when im playing online for some reason.

playing on or offline wouldnt effect it, your just being paranoid now... :|
;)
Do u think its a console fault then? I think i have moved the console from downstairs to upstairs (keeping it flat) with a disc in although the power was off.

Its fine
If you move it and drop it or shake it retardly like a 4 year old it will be damaged.
I used to be really concerned about my 360 but its fine
but it scratched my damn disc and keeps happeneing whenever i play

maybe you could try one of those DVD cleaning discs (Y)
no im gonna try a crappy dvd and see if i still get the problem.

Aslong as your 360 doesnt have a built in cheese grater, your ok:D
i just dont understand, could it be over heating or anything?
Jenova
10/Sep/06, 06:15 PM
Could be numerous things
Aslong as the console is on level surface, you put the game in properly you should be sound.
If i was you i would forget it, unless its taking a big effect on your games
well i cant play pgr3 properly online anymore, so im gonna get a new game before deciding.

do that and where ever you go get it
Game or Gamestation ask them about it. When i bought my 360 they gave me a list of risks. Lol i just wanted to play it but they went on and on:sleepy:
the dvd has no scratchs at all, but why would it only be one thing? O well ill pick up another game on wednesday and see if its ok.
anyone think it could be down to overheating? because it only happens when ever i play for a long time when the 360 is extremely hot.
WACCOE

Doubtful that overheating is the problem.

hmmmmm do you know anyone else with a 360?
you could try putting your game in theirs and see if it still scratches, if it doesnt, the problem is your 360 and you have proof, then just take it back and get the game and console replaced
nah i know noone else with a 360.
thinking back i did re-position the 360 while the game was on, because it was too near the wall and not getting enough ventilation at the back but i only pushed it forward a bit nothing else, could that be it?

When any of my audio CD's are scratched i use toothpaste!!! Yes Toothpaste!!!! Wet the cd rub a little toothpaste around and rinse then dry with a cloth. It works with Audio CD's so it should work with games!! (but never tried)
*note to self* Never trade with jjbnoob :)
I always put my discs everywhere upside down though....
