need help with router probs

iv just sighned up to a new broadband subsciber and they sent me a new modem, i can only connect to the internet through the new one. the manual says if i want to use my own router(wich i do) i have to change VPI to 1 and VCI to 50 and so on. but the only way to do that with my router is to conect to the internet with it and type in its IP address, wich i cant do becouse i cant connect withmy old router... if anyone has any idea how to help it would be much appreciated

You can do it. Plug the router in, and it's IP address gets caught before it heads to the modem. In other words, set up the LAN, and until you change those settings, the only website you'll be able to go to is the router's GUI.
