Hello.
I'm trying to set up my xbox on a normal CRT monitor, however i also use this monitor for my computer and have decided to use a KVM switch so that i can switch between xbox to computer with ease. I have the Joytech VGA AV cable.

To make it clearer (sorry, it's a phone picture):

The monitor i am using doesn't have a slot for the VGA cable, a wire is actually connected to the monitor with a VGA slot at the end. Currently the computer is showing up fine with this set up, it is how i can type this right now.

The problem is that when i switch to the xbox 360, it won't show up. In fact, my monitor makes clicking noises similar to those something makes when going on standby. I have tested the joytech cable and the kvm switch multiple times and i have come to the conclusion that there must be a problem with how my monitor is set up at the moment.

I do not have the Joytech manual (second hand cable) and i am not really sure where to start. It could be something as simple as changing a monitor setting but i don't really know what to do. Obviously as i can't get the 360 picture to show up i can't see what options i can change on it to try and help.

Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

If the monitor is clicking it sounds like it's not receiving any signal at all or it's not accepting the resolution/refresh rate currently being pumped out by your 360.

Have you got a VGA couple so you can hook your 360 directly to the monitor? That'd be the 1st thing to try.

If it still doesn't work then it's the resolution/refresh rate.

So then you'll need to hook your 360 to another VGA monitor and change the output setting to one that'll be accepted by your monitor so you'll then get a signal when you re-connect it.

Here's my question. Does your KVM switch use hotkeys for switching? Or does it have a manual switch + a hotkey?

Because if so, a hotkey switch often times won't forward a VGA signal if it doesn't detect a mouse or keyboard signal.

If that's the case, you'll need to do a little jury rigging. Mine works the same way. It has the keyboard coming through it to my PC, but not to my Xbox. Instead, it has a mouse cable (on the Xbox side) going to my PC. So, when I switch to my Xbox, it detects a live mouse connection (because it doesn't know that the mouse cable is plugged into my empty mouse PS/2 port).

Thanks a lot for the replies

No i don't have a VGA couple, i do have a monitor that actually has a VGA slot rather than an attached wire and i used it to change the 360 settings to the resolution (1024x768) on this monitor. Nothing different happened though, i thought maybe the xbox reset itself when i disconnected it to connect it up to this monitor.

Here's my question. Does your KVM switch use hotkeys for switching? Or does it have a manual switch + a hotkey?

All there is is a small button and a light to indicate which signal is being displayed on the actual KVM switch.

I'll try a couple of things having got some ideas from your replies, thanks again. (Y)

Also i'd like to add that i replaced this monitor for another monitor (KVM and all) and i got a flashing red box that said "signal frequency out of range". Know if that has any relevance to anything? I didnt get that message when i plugged the xbox 360 straight into it, maybe it's a problem with the connected computer?
