Can't say I'm that impressed, there hasn't been a good Tony Hawk game since THPS2 on the psx.
(THPS3 was okay, it went downhill after that)
This looks like a rehash of more of the same.

I can't say I'll be getting this, as I got Tony Hawks American Wasteland and wasn't impressed in the slightest. I did like Tony Hawks but not anymore!

I got THPS2, which was awesome, and 3, which was pretty damn good, if a little similar.
I haven't bought a TH since then, and don't plan to buy this, simply because I don't think the games will have changed enough to warrant me spending £40+.

This game really does look quite good though! I think they need to go back to realism i mean the worst thing about that footage was the piano bit! Why put that in there is totally no need!

I Think they need to go back to the 'pro skater' days. the undergroud series is a total failure and they need to go back to the old school skating roots.
As they have a contract signed with hawk i think activison(it is activision isnt it?) have 20 years with this franchise. so for all our skaes lets hope they turn it around soon.

I look forward to this game, I was disapointed in the series when Underground came out, but this looks like things are getting back on track.

When I read back when E3 was on that the series was planning on going more realistic I actually believed them, and was foolish to do so.
I saw this video yesterday and I think it's crap. My dreams of having a realistic Tony Hawk's game where you can do tricks which are done by the professional skaters in real life have been shattered. One part of the film you see Stevie Williams kick out at the air and the skateboard spins, I mean I seriously hope I won't be seeing any of that in the full game as I will have a fit if I do.
The fact that you can now do unlimited late flips is a huge step in the wrong direction for getting a realistic skateboarding game but is a excellent step forward in expanding the amount of extremely high combos which can be done. I am just going to love being able to do all different types of late tricks, meaning that you will hardly ever be doing the same combo lines twice.
I of course will be getting this game straight away and will be the first person in the UK to get the full 1000 gamerscore. It's a shame to not have a realistic game, but even so I do love the unrealistic Tony Hawk's games so this won't disapoint me. :D

I think a realistic skateboarding game would be boring. I think some of the fun from the original tony hawks games was being able to pull off rediculus tricks and combos that looks awesome (sp) and arnt possible in the real world.
If it wer realistic then anytime u tryed to switch from a 1000degree turn into a manuel to premo flip handslide you would bail. Which my freinds would suck
JJBDude
24/Jul/06, 12:47 AM
You may well be correct origami kid, however never has a realistic skateboarding game been made so we are left to question what would be of a realistic Tony Hawk's game. It may well have worked very well, but I guess we wont find out in Project 8.

a "realistic" tony hawks would suck tony's balls big time :D
itd be awful, ollie, one flip trick land, repeat, hardly any combos at all ramps would also be lame, it would just fail

Also what would happen when you f**ked it up going up a huge ramp and landed on your head....
Surely that would be the end of the game as in real-life you would be more than likely Dead or in a Coma!

exactly! :D
and you'd have to have health meter aswell and the levels would be ALOT more boring

24/Jul/06, 01:56 AM
Trust me when I say this Phatmuther, but today's skaters to do rather scary stuff which is not lame. Go watch Danny Way air 90 feet from ramp to ramp. ;)
It could be made so that you re-load from a safe point if you bailed really bad. Simple.
phatmuther
24/Jul/06, 02:01 AM
so you'd like to have to reload if your fell bad? not just get up and start skating straight away?
i still say it would be crap
i never said skaters doing boring stuff, but the majority street skater doesnt do crazy stuff like that, they do abit of a grind here some steps there etc

I don't generally play games for realism... nor watch films for that realism either.
If every time I played Call of Duty 2 and knew that if I f**ked up here I would have to start the game again, I'd be running into the houses hiding for cover instead of runnning out like a Mad Man shooting all over the place hoping I get someone.
Or if in Burnout when I did crash I knew the game would end or he gets put in a coma... I wouldn't play it.
Games aren't real and never should try to be the real thing.. Games much as any form of Entertainment try and invoke your imagination into thinking "What if?".
Obviously elements have to real or your imagination would have no basis to find the element of the game or film interesting or believable.
Realism isn't the answer, Realistic Elements Yes!
So back on Skating maybe more Realistic Moves.. but then again that wouldn't really appeal to me.

Capital D for dead and capital C for coma! This guy means business! LOL! I thinkthere should always be a line between realism and fun! Like obviously if you bangedyour head you should get up and not die! That would be silly!

I see your point about realism, but lets look at driving games for a second.
You mentioned burnout. Burnout is a good game, but is it the best driving game? Most people would probably say they best driving game was Gran Turismo, PGR3 or something similar, not Mario Kart or burnout.
PGR and Gran Turismo (well at least gran turismo) are considered by most to be some of the most realistic driving games, only bettered by a few F1 games on PC.
In Gran turismo you can slam right into a wall at 200 mph and it won't even damage your car. However your car handles realisticly, it has capabilites that mimic its real world counterpart and it is going on in an enviroment where you could belive there was a car race in real life.
My point is that the THPS dosn't really have that many realistic elements except licensed brands and skaters. If it was a driving game it would be mario kart or perhaps burnout, the skateboarding genere is still missing its gran turismo.
Gran turismo dosn't appeal to the same crowd as burnout or mario kart, and a realistic skateboarding game wouldn't appeal to the same people as THPS, but there would be thoose that preffered it.
Oh, and if this dosn't make much sense I apologize as I'm slightly drunk at the moment.

Yea your right no game can have 100% realism otherwise it wouldn't work.
Also the point about different games for different people is spot on aswell, it's like Amped 3 I brought it to have a laugh and pull of probably near-impossible moves aswell as death diving stunts...
Although people who actually take Snowboarding Seriously it wouldn't appeal. As you say it goes for all games....

i meen fine yes people like rodney mullen who is an amazing skater. Go watch some of his videos, they are rediculas.
But i really do think that a realistic skating game would take a lot of fun away from the game.
JJBDude
24/Jul/06, 03:41 PM
Rodney Mullen, pshhhh I'm better than him. I've never seen him do this flatground trick (starring me):

That tricks so hard it's not even in the Tony Hawk games. :D

Oh and JJBDude, I think rodney mullens is still sligthly better then you (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4920430105382481700&q=rodney+mullen) :D

25/Jul/06, 09:03 AM
What n00bs calling it a 720 Flip when it's clearly a 540 Double Kickflip. But I personally believe what I did was better (if I landed it properly rotated) as I was in my Nollie stance, while Rodney in that clip is in his normal stance. And doing that trick in Nollie stance is harder than doing it in normal stance but with another spin of the board.
The screen of Mike Vallely doing a Melon is nice, but the security guard in that pic doesn't look very graphical. :|

I'm saying the trick I recorded and posted a link to is better than the trick which was posted of Mullen.
No way am I better than him overall, he is insane.
phatmuther
25/Jul/06, 12:46 PM
oh right, fair nuff (Y) yes he is insane, have you seen the vid of him in 1989 i think, my god man :o
JJBDude
25/Jul/06, 12:59 PM
His best part in his section in Plan B - Questionable back in 1992. He was 26 back then and was into doing all types of fliptricks unlike his crappy flatland tricks nowadays. Then there is his section in Almost - Round Three where he does some unbelievably technical tricks.
how lonh have you been skating JJB?

I have a reason for hating a game, may it be just saying I don't like that genre of games or there being a complicated reason behind it. A game doesn't just suck.

In my opinion yes they do... King Kong being the prime example.
Although some people liked it!

Yes but there is a reason behind that comment. A example which I think is the case for you could be 1 on these 3.
1. Boring
2. Don't like not using guns much
3. Never get to be Kong
See? :D

I haven't completed it but I'm sure you can play as Kong...
I didn;t like the fact there was no Multiplayer even Split-Screen I thought it would be a laugh if you could have fights with Kong.
eg.
Kong vs Kong
Kong vs Dinosaur
Kong vs Humans
and vice-versa

Im glad that was the tony hawk games has moved on from the 'underground' series and hopefully can now get back to being as good as the pro skater games which were very cool, ill be buying the game anyway.

Check out the GT Interview on Gametrailers dated the 25th of July.

Looks like there is going to be a new feature called "Nail the Trick", this is when the game goes into slo mo and you control what tricks you do on the board with the two analogue sticks.
For a start MEATMHAN X don't post lame posts where you don't explain yourself. SPAM TBH
Also what was wrong with King Kong? Me and a mate both completed this the other day and we think it's amazing. It's more of a interactive film than game but it was directed by the same guy that made the amazing Beyond good and Evil.
Anyway let's slide back to Tony Hawks yeh.

I just started to do that Tob3z as I saw we were strolling into spam lol.
