Some rather interesting news hit our desk this morning regarding PS3 pre-prders. Yes I know this is a 360 site and no I haven't posted the news in the wrong place, but hear me out as all you Xbox 360 fans will be chuckling away once you read this.

It seems that consumers who want the new PS3 console from Sony will have to put a deposit down for it. Nothing new there, but think about this, to pre-order the Xbox 360 gamers had to put as little as £5 even £0 to secure their console. Well to secure a PS3 you will have to put down a £150 pre-order down, yes thats one five and zero.

Tommorows issue of MCV will reveal that Sony are currently having talks with retailers about setting up this £150 system to help with the Christmas rush. They say that the new system will ensure that console allocation will be fairly managed.

Sony have in fact confirmed that these talks will be taking place, but for more info check out MCV. Is this a revolutionary idea in the world of pre-orders,or is it another blow to the already unstable PS3? We'll let you decide that one.

Sony have demolished the PS3, even I liked the idea of it at one point....but now its just an over expensive, delayed, fax machine.

Well, it will effect them, as I don't see a casual gamer putting down that much, only the hardcore, it helps, but Sony is leaving out the Mainstream consumer, who make up most of the Gaming Industry in terms of sales.

Not sure whether thats a good idea... I suppose I could see where there coming from but even putting down your £150 up front doesn't mean that they are going to make a PS3 avialable to you on launch date.

As we seen with people who ordered there Xbox 360 and any other item that has high demand, they never seem to furfil the expectations whethers that's more down to a marketing ploy or what I don't know!

How many casual gamers preorder consoles anyways?

I don't. PS3's gonna be sold out for months.

Doesn't really matter. Most people getting PS3s right away won't mind 150 euros/quid whatever, because they really want them and don't mind how much they cost. I mean, they're going to have to pay it all sooner or later anyway.

phatmuther

it could be a ploy to make it feel like your paying less.

if you pay 150 now, when you pick it up youll only be paying the same price as a premium 360

TBH I don't see much of a problem with this, if the system works... it works, if it doesn't then come release day there's gonna be more of a chance to buy PS3's on release day for casuals and hardcore gamers because of the first come first serve princible, and if people catch wind of X amount of PS3's available to those who didn't pre-order, lines are going to be crazy big, which is only going to look good from Sony's POV.

Sony's all about making their product's look like the must-have thing, and this might be a good way to get that image across. At the same time though, it could easily go topsy turvy for them, but I guess only time will tell.

£150 deposit on a PS3 yeah it will happen. People are stupid enough to do that, companies set the prices its up to individuals to break them.
I work in one of the companies that will allow this to happen. basically we will force the ppl who have already secured their pre-order with a £20 tellling them thats not enough now, they need to fork out more money!!.
If people dont realise that sony need to be stalled. then keep going.

P.S do a poll What is 1080p ?

I think most people have a general idea of what 1080p is..

I just heard some disturbing news - you can only use a Blu-Ray player with a HDTV! If the PS3 one is like that.. damn will that hurt their sales.

Just curious, will the people who have pre-ordered with £20 have their money back if they refuse to front the rest of the cash?

I'm supposing nothing can be done about the ones who've already payed the 20 quid, otherwise some lawsuits could ensue..

Actually it's the retailer's problem because they probably weren't supposed to pre-order them yet.

This has now definitely made my mind up about not pre-ordering a PS3. I laugh at Sony.

regardless of all these rumours and situations Sony are gettin themselves into, i still think it will out sell the 360, people are always gonna go buy the better/leading brand especially when it comes to consoles...

To be totally honest I'm not that bothered about the PS3 I think its overhyped and overpriced for what it is. £150 just proves the overpriced part.

I've convinced a ton of my friends to get 360s by just letting them play mine. It's hard to believe the PS3 can be much better then the 360 I guess.. Especially not $200 worth.

Yeah, you probably won't even notice that much of a difference till the last year or two of their lives. I also think MS has the better online which is a big deal for me..

I get a copy of MCV in work and saw this article. The idea behind the £150 was to stop those people buying the unit and throwing it on ebay on launch day. £1.50 or £150, people will pay it and ebay it. Price means nothing to those hardcore gamers.

The average mum & dad looking to buy a new console for Jonny Consolepants may see the £150 as a sure fire way of getting one before x-mas but even the pre-order is not a guarantee of getting it come launch night. Some parents may see that as a bit too much to outlay on a console and will wait until more stock is around...erm...last spring 07.

The £150 could also be thrown at people by saying your console will only cost you £300! in an attempt to seemingly lower the price of the PS3. Whatever people do £150 or full price pre-orders (Was done by many places on 360 launch) people will pre-order and hope they get it before Jonny Consolepants wets himself in my local Game store.

The Pre-order price will not nail Sony's PS3, the lack of launch titles, buggy launch units, lack of interest in Blu-ray, lack of HD-TV may fire a few nails in but Sony won't die from a few issues. They may be slowed but that is hte time Microsoft and Nintendo need to make golden and fire off some AAA hammers at the coffin.

It's simple. Parents won't buy PS3's @ £450. Apart from the odd rich family. Parents won't shell out that much. You can get a Dell PC with a 19" flat pannel monitor for £350 for christ sake. Pre ordering for £150 is just insane. Bye Sony *Waves*
