Now I'm currently listening to MajorNelsons Podcast, he's talking to Microsoft's Media Division about HD-DVD and Blu-Ray.
They state that Blu-Ray is more prone to damage from general use than a CD. As the protective layer is alot thinner than HD-DVD and DVD, so what would this mean for playing Blu-Ray Movies and PS3 Games are they going to be prone to damage!
Is this source reliable?
Edit: The extra space provided on Blu-Ray is wasted as it uses old MPEG2 Compression compared to the new VC1 Compression by Microsoft. You could get pure quality compared to HD-DVD
This is weird?

Yeah.. that would be a reliable source. Oh damn, Sony's got two more problems then. I swear there are more and more reasons Blu-Ray shouldn't have reared it's face on the PS3.
Looking good for Microsoft though.. Too bad they're not releasing a 360 with HD-DVD integrated. Funny thing is HD-DVD is the cheaper one, and it can hold more and doesn't scratch as easily? Sounds like a good deal to me.

If only Sony would have realized it.. Then we could have PS3s for $400 with free online.. too bad they couldn't see the light like MS did and wait till the next-gen DVD war panned out :(

Wow, I'm so glad I don't want a PS3. Imagine what would happen if you drop the disc. It would probably shatter into a million pieces!

It -was- a reliable source.
Since that interview (if I'm thinking of the one you're talking about, it came out in March-ish? Or is this the past Sunday's one?), Blu-Ray actually got a harder, specially designed layer of plastic-y stuff. As it stands right now, Blu-Ray discs can resist scratches better than HD-DVD.
You know what you guys should really think about? Toshiba is a major player in both the Cell processor, and in HD-DVD. A safe position to be in, yanno?

Well the impression that the MajorNelson podcast [Sunday 16th July 2006] gave was that all the things in which Blu-Ray appear to be better than HD-DVD actually technically will not improve the situation.
It's worth the listen
www.majornelson.com (http://www.majornelson.com) it's on the first page!
I just personally think that Playstation made a mistake with Blu-Ray as if it doesn't pan out like they expect, thats only going to push up the prices even more!

Yeah, Microsoft made the smart choice and made it a cheap add-on. Sure you can't use it for games.. but it's better then having to pay $600 in the first place.

So, he mentioned a less durable disc again on this weeks show? Well, that's just wrong.
Also, I don't see how it not panning out will push up prices. And, which prices? Of games or of the console? Of games, maybe. But I don't think a Blu-Ray failure would push up prices of the PS3.
Furthermore, I'm pretty sure that the BDA has made VC-1 one of the mandatory codecs for all Blu-Ray players.
