Now if your not to familiar with the US when it comes to games and the Internet Then you might want to do a little reading. They have have a politician by the name of Jack Thompson. Now Mr T would like the world to be a better place. Why does he think the world isn't. Ahh that would be because of video games. See Mr T hates games. His idea of a game would be where you would be a flower and grow. You wouldn't die though as most flowers do. Cause that's just crazy violence. Mr T is somehow managing to pass a law where if a child buys a game and is under the age of that game. That kid's going to get a nice fine.

I have gone way off topic. But my reason is this. If Mr T can manage to get that bill passed then what can other people do if America controls the net?

IMO the net is about free speech. Now I'm lucky I'm not Chinese cause if I was I wouldn't be able to view www.bbc.co.uk/news cause the WHOLE of china's net goes through a massive firewall which blocks any website which the government doesn't like.

So what would be your views if America controlled the net? I'm not saying America is bad or anything btw. I just don't think they should have the right to own the internet. Just like they don't own the moon.

BTW if I have any of the facts wrong feel free to put me right. :)

Well the fact is that America already owns the Internet, it's a body of the US Department of Commerce. It's run by a company called ICANN.org it operates through a Memordum of Understanding which is up to them to parties to agree own.

I personally think no nation should have control over the Internet, I think it should be a purely independant organisation getting it's finances from Domain Registars.

On the issus of games, it's the same as films would you let a 10 year old watch a bloody voilent 18 Rated film? No, of course you wouldn't, so why do some people do it with games. It's just common sense!

Why do people have to make things so complicated! Why restrict the masses just because of the few!

We don't fine the kids, we fine the person who sold them the over age dvd/game. When I was under 18 I used to go buy 18+ games all the time because I completely forgot about the rating on the back. It's not something I think or when I'm choosing a game.

I once got IDed for DOA Extreme beach volleyball... I was underage and had to get my mum to buy it lol. What did wizz me right off though is the guy who served me laughed when I went to buy it. ---- head.

Not true, as I pointed out ICANN is a "company" of the US Department of Commerce and works via an Agreement set out by both parties.

ICANN Control the use and domain of Internet address! Therefore in theory one could remove access to a certain website via the US Government.

I have some American friends and think there is some really great parts and people there. But Americans on the whole are so inward looking (75% of Americans don't own passports). smileemptysoul your a pretty good example. If they cultured themselves, they might just begin to recover some respect and work better with the rest of the world.(:/)

America did not invent the internet it was created by a group of scientists in switzerland so they could comunicate with each other between stations like LOST America took this premise and altered certain parts and claimed ownership.

There are alot of american people i know who are sound but most only travel within the us and do not know anything about different cultures you are under a big brother style grasp not so different from china. Americans need to wake up and realise there are other people other than themselves in the world. and how you 'smilee' want us to 'kiss your ass just shows your linear mentality
