The ranking is based on points per match, for the last 4 years i don't understand why England is number 5?

What FIFA needs to use if a variation of the Elo rating system, which is based on Who you beat, and Who you lose to.

Say for Example, Mexico beats Jamaica, they won't gain much points from that since Jamaica would have a low Elo rating, and Mexico lose to Argentina, they won't lose much points since Argentina have a higher Elo rating then Mexico.

Like RiLu@ said, the ratings are based on 4 Year Span, Brazil has had a Much better 4 years then Italy, Italy jumped 11 places which shows they weren't impressive during qualifying.

This doesn't say they are not World Champions, it just says they are not the Best Team in the World.

The ranking is for all games, if a team comes to the world cup and wins it doesn't mean it's the best team.

The ranking is used to setup the world cup groups, qualification groups and so on.

As I said, Mexico are now a VICTIM of the system rather than beneficiaries. Which kind of sucks.

Scotland 41st is far more accurate than 59th like we were before.

They're still strange, though. Paraguay have gone up from 35 to 19 after a disastrous World Cup. :s

They should have poules, aka teams like Brazil, Argentina and France in poule a and teams like Scotland, Greece and Cameroom in Poule B etc..

It seems like you get the same amount for beating anyone whether it's Brazil or Honduras, why else are USA so near the top? how many top teams did they beat in the last year?

For example you should get 10 for beating Brazil and 1 for beating Macedonia, it makes sense, obviously based on where the team is, I mean someone like China should get more than 1 point for beating Macedonia..

But it's kinda hard to explain because the system itself must be impossible to get right hence why the rankings are mince.

Yeah, Kalou, it's more because the system is pretty much impossible to implement properly rather than FIFA doing anything particularly wrong.

It's not their fault the rankings suck. It's their fault for continuing on with them when they know that they suck.
