They believed that the mainland of Australia was North Korea and Tasmania was South Korea! 'Nuff said!

Seen the video before. It's really sad......
Not all Americans are stupid ( obviously), but this video shows how pathetic it is that a lot of people have no interest in the news or in the outside world.......
I said it before and I'll say it again, it has nothing to do with the ignorance of the American people, its just the country's government that hinder world affairs for all Americans.
If you asked an American about what kind of person lives in Iran, they will say they all wear turbans and they all wear bomb jackets. Its quite sad really that a country can do this sort of thing to its own people. The media in places such as New York, Michigan etc tell them that they need to be secure that the North is against them etc.
Where as Texans are probably scared of a Mexican invasion anytime soon.
Education and the media dont ever say how it really is. Its a reason why 85% of the population doesnt even have a passport, because they truly believe that no other country is worth visiting, as they might get shot or stabbed, hence they only feel safe in their mainland.
Us Europeans have it a little easier, Europe is built up of about 30-40 countries, which all pretty much border each other.
From London, its a 3 hour journey to France, a 4 hour journey to Belgium, a 1-2 hour flight to Scotland, Netherlands, Scandinavia, Germany, Italy, Portugal etc
We have it a little easier because we are grouped up so tightly that we cant simply ignore neighbours and things that happen in there country.
There are a lot of people that can pick out certain countries, but have truble with Europe. I doubt there are many people from UK on here that could point out where all the South American countries are located.
I am still waiting to find one American who can name the 4/5 countries that make up Great Britain. Heard a couple of bizarre ones (such as Germany, ha, as if we would ever join up with them due to our countries history), but yeah, it doesnt mean they are stupid, it just means the Government is succeeding in teaching the kids nothing about the world.
I understand its changing nowadays and that the kids are learning more about places, which would be great, because I would love to see American tourists, as the world has so many different cultures and so many wonderful places, I have never been outside Europe myself, but I have seen such national treasures, as the Eiffiel Tower, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the 1am sunrise in Sweden and the Red Light District in Amsterdam (:D). It would be great to see more of the American population out there in the world, and to appreciate the beauty of many types of cultures :)
I wondered if you guys in Australia were also, not as much, cut off as America was, seeing as you only have the "Kiwi's" for company out there, in the hot hot sun, with golden beaches, and hot weather, bright blue waters and yeah, hot weather (...*******s).

"Why Korea?"
"They are trouble".
"Why are they trouble?"
"Their attitude".
Baffled. I thought he would mention nuclear weapons, or communism, but no; its their attitude. And the guy that said Italy; I cant believe there are people like this in my world.
Get off my planet *Runs off crying*

Nope the entire United States has bad immigration control, therefore the people are scared of Mexicans coming across and taking American jobs from Americans.
Education and the media dont ever say how it really is. Its a reason why 85% of the population doesnt even have a passport, because they truly believe that no other country is worth visiting, as they might get shot or stabbed, hence they only feel safe in their mainland.
You do realize that the United States is a big country and most Americans in their life time probably do not visit everywhere.
Lets always remember that other countries are bigger than Europe and we can't just walk 10 minutes and get to another country.
But back on point, yes the average American does not know alot about the outside world, but then again if you look at people that know their own history Americans are great at that. I remember I was watching Jepordy once, yes Jepordy a show of intellegence and no one answered correctly what the capital of Canada was, **** most people believe that we live in igloos and its very very cold up here.
Also why should Americans know where Austrialia is? Its 20+ hours away by plane, it exports little to the United States and has been not a 'economic power' of the past....well how ever long it has been around.
Another point is I bet I could go up and ask an average Canadian, American, Austrailian, European and ask them to point out say Nigeria, Angola, Columbia, Malaysian and most probably could not do it.
Rant over. :D
"Lets always remember that other countries are bigger than Europe and we can't just walk 10 minutes and get to another country."
Hence why I said its easier for us Europeans.
"Also why should Americans know where Austrialia is?"
Bit like saying why should everyone in the world know where America is? Yet they do. Ask a Brazilian, ask a Nigerian, ask a Swiss, ask a Icelandic, the point is, they all know where America is, as well as Australia, UK, Brazil etc etc.
I could easily point out where Nigeria (African country, with a ****ty government), Columbia (Coke Capital, South of Mexico, North of Brazil, provides USA with 88% of its cocaine), Malaysia (its on an island near Fiji, Java, and Thailan, capital is Kuala Lumpar and is home to one of the tallest buildings in the world). The only one that I would have trouble with is Angola.
And im an average European :p
Feel free to chuck any country my way and I'll tell you what I know, being an average European that isnt restricted to British Only News ;)

It's one of the 7 freaking continents.....everyone should know about it, even if it has little to do with America. 8-)
It's not just that though....he said we should invade Iran, yet he doesn't even know where to locate it on a map...

It sounds cliche but people should know where the United States is considering the size and power that it represents. Bah and all those political problems just put them to bet, the start of the new beginnig should be in 2006 when the Democrats win one of the houses.

(puts on Jose Mourinho hat) Well considering you know where those places were you are not an average European! :p
And while we are at it....Botswana!

I could point to all of them on the map, but then again I'm a geographical genius, so I probably don't count as being an average European. For some reason I just remember exactly where countries are, what their capital cities are, and things like population and really stupid stuff. I'm pretty sure I could name the capital city of every country in Europe, which although worrying in a sense, is just something I'm able to do without much effort.
Also, I can't believe people in America don't know the capital of Canada. That just seems pretty incredible. Maybe it's not the same situation as over here, but to me it seems like exactly the same situation as an English person not knowing the capital of Scotland. Which I'm sure about 95% of English people do.

Im kinda the same Joe, I suck at US state capitals though.
Botswana, I would say thats an African country, because it sounds Rowanda and I guess its close to there :s
Drew, the thing is mate, we are technically average Europeans, we just tend to know other countries and their place in the world.
UK is a pretty big powerful nation (despite the fact you could fit it 50 times into the US, no idea how many in Canada, depends on wether you count the frozen islands you guys have up north.
I also guess Quebec is the Canadian capital, if anything, its the French provinance capital in Canada.
Joe, does it begin with E? ;)
Smilee, its not that much of a disgrace, Im perfectly sure that all the people that got the names right, were cut in the final edit of that clip :p

Australia is a actually a very unique place...It's the largest island country in the world. and has the largest surfaced rock mass in the word..and has the largest Coral Reef, and has 46,000 victorian year 12 students doing their English exam at the exact same time (just got home from mine :s).
Let's see...locations of countries eh?
Nigeria - Central/West Africa, south of the sahara and is on the African Gold-Coast.
Angola - South/West Africa on the Atlantic Coast, south of the Congo
Columbia - North/West South America, north of Equador and Peru, borders Central America
Malaysia - South/East Asia on the south tip of Thailand and north/west of Indonesia (FYI: No where NEAR Fiji)
Canada - North of USA, capital is of course Ottawa
Iran - East border of Iraq, Middle-east/West-Asia
Botswana - Southern Africa, north border of South Africa
Ok..now it's my turn...where's Djibouti without using the Internet?!

Yeah state capitals have caught me out quite a few times. I know some of them, but definitely not all of them. For example Lansing is the capital of Michigan rather than Detroit, which would catch out a lot of people over here. There are loads like that which I don't know, but there are some (like that) which I do.
Also, capital of Canada is Ottawa (sp?). :)

It's not the fact that they don't know where the places are on the map. It scares me that they are fooled by the "Australia" thing, and that one guys says "Lets put a big hole in the middle east".

Yeah you are kinda right, but I think officially under the Constitution Act Quebec is not a biligual province, only New Brunswick is. And the captial of Quebec is Quebec City :P
And for the record I was just trying to bug you Steve. :)
And also for the record the capital of Canada is Ottawa.

Whooo, not only did I get it right, but I spelt it right too.
Also, I love correcting people who think Toronto is the capital of Canada. Same with people who think Melbourne or Sydney is the capital of Australia. Gives me a warm feeling inside. :D

Sydney used to be the Capital...then it was Melbourne in the mid 19th century, then the government built a city half-way between Melb and Syd named Canberra, which was to be the new captial. Canberra means "Place of meeting" in the local Aborignal dialect..

Heh, yeah, no-one knows it's Canberra here, though, so I can always laugh at them when they say it's something like Sydney or Melbourne.

Not suprised people say Melbourne...It's one of the most culturally diverse cities in Australia, and rated as one of the worlds top cities to live in...

Yeah thats a very common mistake. Its interesting to be of note that both Toronto and Ottawa are in the same province, and Toronto is the provincial capital with Ottawa being the national. Not to mention that Ottawa is a small city compared to Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
But in my opinion Ottawa is the nicest city in Canada.
