Germany-Costa Rica was a great match. What a fantastic way to start the tournament. Although I was cheering on Costa Rica, I wasn't too bothered about the outcome, because we got to see lots of goals, 3 of which were excellent, and for once have a goalfest of an opening game.

Despite the negativity of the pundits regarding Poland-Ecuador, I quite enjoyed this game as well. Ecuador are a really, really good defensive team, but with quick players up front who can do damage. Poland were very disappointing, though. I'd say Germany and Ecuador will advance now.


So, yeah, Day 1 over. 100% AJ viewing so far.

And what's the best thing is there's still another month to go! w00t!

I have seen the highlights on MOTD and Ecuador looked really good at the back, going forward they were not too good - score a good old cutback...they must have been playing Pro Evo. :D

Ecuador are a VERY good side. Just because the European media wants us to think teams like Ecuador and Paraguay are rubbish doesn't mean they are.

Yeh, but i'm talking about what i saw yesterday. ECU wasn't that good organized and POL played bad. that wasnt a team that scored 27 goal in the qualifiers. defense was shaky, but the defensive line of GER wasn't top neither. So the best team that played yesterday was ECU, nice midfield players just missing a bit more confidence to not miss so many passes even close ones.

I think with Ecuador's speed up top they could well rip apart Germant, as defensively they are VERY slow. You saw that the way Paulo Wanchope was breaking through so often.

Also - on offsides. It look's to me as though linesmen (assistant referee's w/e) are tryign to give the benefit of the doubt to the strikers. You saw that with both of Costa Rica's goals and Ecuador's 2nd goal. I think this could be a good thing. :)
