The Name is revealed
THQ have revealed the name for Broken Sword 4, The Angel of Death, there's not much more information on the game, however we know that it will be based upon an ancient historical secret regarding the Angel of death, So I've tried to find out what this could be.

"Azrael, also spelled Azrail, Ashriel, Azaril, and Azriel, is the Angel of death appearing in the Catholic and Orthodox canonical Book of Tobit and in the Qur'an; his name literally means whom God helps. He is depicted as an angel under the command of God, and in Islam, he is an archangel. He is said to reside in the 3rd Heaven and possesses 70,000 feet and 4,000 wings, while his body is provided with as many eyes and tongues as there are men in the world. In Muslim tradition, Azrael is forever writing in a large book and forever erasing what he writes; what he writes is the name of a man at birth, and what he erases is that said name at death. Also, in Islamic legend, Allah is said to have sent out four angels, Michael, Gabriel, Israfel, and Azrael, on a mission to retrieve seven handfuls of earth for the creation of Adam. Michael, Gabriel, and Israfel returned to Allah empty-handed, but the persistent Azrael had succeeded in wrestling soil away from the earth. For accomplishing this feat, he was appointed as the Angel of Death with the task of separating human souls from their bodies."

Broken Sword 4 - Press release - December 2005

THQ today announced that the fourth instalment of the epic Broken Sword series of games will be entitled Broken Sword: The Angel of Death. Created by critically-acclaimed developer Revolution Software, this latest epic adventure is due to launch on PC and is expected to hit stores around the world in summer 2006.

In Broken Sword: The Angel of Death, gamers once again take the role of unwitting hero George Stobbart as he investigates dark secrets from a long-forgotten history. Stobbart falls in love with the mysterious and beautiful Anna Maria. Her untimely and mysterious disappearance draws him into a desperate race against time to find an ancient artifact capable of immense destruction. The only lead George has is an antiquated manuscript rumoured to have inexplicable links to mfkzt, a mythical substance that has been forgotten for over two thousand years.

Uncovering a nefarious plot reignites an age-old rivalry between the world's most powerful factions, and exposes a secret that they have secretly fought over for millennia. A secret that will ultimately lead George's latest adventure to a painful and bitter conclusion...

"Broken Sword is renowned for its gripping stories and intelligent, considered puzzles," said Charles Cecil, managing director, Revolution Software. "Broken Sword: The Angel of Death has been designed from the puzzle upwards to create the most compelling, challenging gameplay as well as deliver an enthralling story that will appeal to both fans of the genre and newcomers alike."

The fourth installment of broken sword was announced on 18th August 2005, highly unexpected as Revolution Software's Director, Charles Cecil has only planned on making 3 of the Broken Sword games when he began with the the shadow of the templar however due to the high demand that THQ received from fans, it was requested that Revolution Software begin the creation of Broken Sword 4.

It seems that this announcement overshadowed Revolutions other game in development, BASS 2, it is unknown as to whether this has been stopped while they concentrate on BS4.

The Story will find George, the main character, falling in love with a mysterious and beautiful women, who suddenly vanishes which draws him into a frantic search for an ancient artifact.

The Characters will include George of course but also Nico, Nico was not mentioned in the press release however this has been confirmed by Tony Warriner at Revolution who also said that we will be meeting some familiar faces from the last games.

Graphics in Broken Sword 4 will be 3D, this is due to pressure by the Publisher, even though Revolution would love to make it in 2D, THQ would not publish it which would mean no Broken Sword 4.

Broken Sword 4 will be published on the PC due to the fact that 70% of broken sword 3 sales were on PC.

I loved the first 2 games on the PS1 they were great 2d point n click, sadly the move to 3d in the third game ruined the game slightly. hopefully this will make up for the third game, even if its in 3d. 2ds a thing of the past now.
