Hey,

Just read this little piece of information that was posted on Digg:
http://gearlog.com/blogs/gearlog/archive/2006/05/16/11622.aspx

Made me chuckle :geek:

Sony dont seem to be having a good time of it at present. There are lots of news reports of Sony having bad E3, now this. Could be fanboys spreading malicious rumours like when the 360 1st launched and everyone machines where overheating or faulty. The internet has a lot to answer for.

I just red, on last months EDGE, a interview with the guy behind PS3 software it's a joke. He runs from every question, bla bla!

What i think is that SONY is going to miss big time this fall.

The blog doesn't really prove anything to be honest.

What do you mean, Mez? It's fairly convincing. They said this was their new premium Vaio, playing Blu-Ray, look at how great Blu-Ray looks.

And it's not a BD disc.

Here's a second blog from the event:
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2939
Only this guy didn't bother to eject the disc. Same table, from the looks of it.

So, yes, I suppose this first blogger could have taken a picture of his own laptop with a DVDR disc on a similar table.

The picture of the laptops and the blu ray box are both on the same table, no doubt! But as for the laptop being on the same table, i'm scepticle.

How could they show an entire HD movie on a DVD anyways?! It's nowhere near big enough!!

A codec with far more compression than MPEG-2.

From what I can tell...1 laptop had Blu-Ray playing and 1 had DVD playing, teh write-up compares the two. IU think the guy just got a pic of the DVD version and started some bull about it being the fake Blu-Ray.

:)

But then would the quality not be really crap?

Ooooh. Sharp eyes. Yes, the 190G is the laptop on the right, and the picture of the DVD+R is coming out of a laptop that would be positioned on the left. Since the gearlog guy says "one of the Blu-Ray drives," he's apparently under the impression that both are Blu-Rays.

No, MPEG-2 is actually a pretty unefficient codec. You could use a more lossy one that few people would notice a difference in watching, especially if not side-by-side.

When you look at the pic from the first post you can see that the laptop is the one on the left the dvd opened to the left, and you can see the edge of the table.

If it's the left playing the DVD then it should be better picture on the right one, is it?

Yes, the one on the right is the top of the line model, with Blu-Ray.

It's hard to tell if the one on the right is actually better, since we're using a digital camera shooting LCD screens at a distance and at different angles, but it seems like the display on the right has less pixelation around whats-his-name's nose.

There's one pic from the side where it's possible to see that both laptops have the Blue-Ray logo on it, it's only a matter of wich disk is inside.

Even if both do have the logo, Sony was making a side by side comparison. The gearlog blog doesn't mention that, as though he wasn't aware that Sony was in fact saying that one laptop was playing a DVD.

I'm starting to think that the guy from the first blogg didn't flow with what the rep was saying and got lost with the point of presentation, both laptops are Blue-Ray enable. I can't see a point, of have a logo on it if it doesn't plays the thing.

The comparison must be disk quality, not a player quality.

And then the Blue-Ray screen is the one on the right(on the pic).

Right, Sony was comparing a DVD to a Blu-Ray. I don't think the gearlog guy caught that, and thought they were both playing Blu-Ray. (Which doesn't make much sense.)

And i really hope so it was a Blue-Ray on the other. have somethiIt's always fun to ng new to try out, and waste some money of course!

just one more small thing, Blue-Ray disks are out on the market, bestbuy.com has it!

Or...the gearblog guy was just another one who spends more time trying to make Sony look bad than actually being interested in anything else.
