Gold vs Silver

Question about the Gold Live, I read that you are able to play online multiplayer and the silver doesn't offer this. Now does this mean what i think? You can't play online with a silver account? I wonder what the purpose of silver is then?

Just got my 360 to so I've been on the 1 month free Gold, just wondering exactly what it adds, if its worth buying it for the year. I treid looking this up at microsoft's site, but as some of you may have seen by my other thread. I'm still getting the "cant conect to msid.msn.com" error from the xbox website. Working on getting that resolved went through a big process with my ISP today.

yep no online playing with your mates or anyone else with a silver account. Purpose of a silver account is so that you can still have friends, be on leaderboards, compare achievements, all that malarkey, download demos, trailers etc.

i would highly sugest getting a years worth if you enjoyed playing online with your months trial.

Yeah thanks a lot, can't wait till I can check out that site myself, lol. I'm def going to upgrade to a gold for sure, I mean, silver is pointless if you ask me. Who would want to log in just to chat? It's not like Xb Live will turn into myspace. haha

Another quick q for ya. The gamer zones... does that actually change who you will be matched up against?

Does underground mean cheating etc allowed?

Dont think so. Its made to seem as though you have the reputation of a tough man when actually you are not:D

No it means you are mostly likely to be matched against someone with the same gamerzone as you:)

apparently it does change who your playing against, e.g if your underground, you would class yourself to swear a little more than usual and hence wouldnt be put against a family zoned player etc, but it doesnt seem to work really 8-)

Well something must be wrong. My mate RichWalton27 is on Silver yet he was playing PDZ with me the other night. Because he used his 1 Month Free Trial, then he can't afford to buy Gold yet, but Silver still let him play online.

He said he changed some settgin or something - I don't know exactly.

it was a free week of gold from the 8th to the 15th, thats why he could play

Same thing happened to me a couple of times. I'm not sure if rep's are weighted, or if it was a temporary bug.

As for the point of silver, it's so you can still download content, like add-ons and demos, which will become more and more important.

To begin with all i wanted was to have the silver membership, i wasn't willing to venture into an era of new gaming, my multiplayer memories are of childhood sweating over alex kidd, sonic, mario and ridge racer. But i accepted the invite of free gold trial for a month and have never looked back. i played a few times on live and immediatley took out a years gold subscription. they even credited me with the remainder of my months trial. m$ aren't that bad, just like anything new to the block it has faults. Gold over silver anyday and i don't play anything like most players on live.

i love xbox live gold. and to think the only reason i got live was because of a 2 month in a game be4 i had a 360.
