Why is it 'Component'? Is this another multi-tasking, Swiss army knife kind of cable?
I have HDMI on my LCD but it can wait!

It's a digital high def cable, as opposed to the analog. Means that you can have digital copy protection, like HDCP.
Truthfully, though, I think this cable is vaporware. A typo or a rumor or a mistranslation. I don't see this cable happening.

I don't either, the only use I can see is for HD-DVD Protected Movies, which I think is a joke. As all HDTVs have Component at 720p which is the best for gaming as Xbox 360 doesn't support 1080p, I personally don't see the need.
Liksang has had this lead up ever since the 360 was released though :(

Sorry to disapoint but I have heard (though i hope i'm right) that Microsoft have announced that they aren't doing a cable, nor third parties. I read this in the offical mag and online. I hope they do, do one though, but i think one would've being released pretty much straight away. Have u tried VGA connection? Joytech's is great and cheap at £11.99 @ play.com.

There is a call for a HDMI cable...your HD LCD/Plasma runs digital signals so when you plug your component RCA jacks in (analogue signal) the set is doing an on-the-fly analogue to digital conversion...this can cause artifacts and other minor flaws in the picture.
If MS did come up with a real HDMI cable, so true digital and not just a connector hot swap, then you'd have a true digital signal with what should be per-pixel sync.
If they did a HDMI cable then I'm sure it could cause problems with HD-DVD and HDCP...dunno.

It would -cause- problems? How so?

I did say I wasn't sure but maybe the HDCP...as you'd said previously MS didn't want to touch HDCP for the HD-DVD so if using HDMI will the lack of HDCP not cause any issues?

I think the lack of HDCP would cause issues with or without an HDMI cable, though.

I know DVI can run the HDCP signal and you can buy a vga/dvi connecter to attach to HDMI for other products so i wonder if a 3rd party or M$ would do this? My bets are that a 3rd would do it sometime!

Microsoft probably wouldn't license a third party, but.. What do you mean, use a connector?
