Do you think we will ever see the release of a console, created and manufactured by a consortium consisting of MS, Sony, Ninty, Sega, Namco, Konami, EA, Ubisoft etc.

It would make development easier and the market would be phenomenal.

If all the partners pulled together and agreed a common standard, the Console could be competitively priced.

The game manufacturers development costs would be less as they are only aiming for one market. There would be no sloppy inter-console ports.

What do you think? Are we likely to see this in the future?

Nope. And if we do, it will actually prove to be a bad thing in a couple of years. How could all of those companies agree on support of third-party games? Not very easily. Meaning either no other company can make games for this Frankensystem, or everyone can. The latter brings us back to the 83-84 crash, when the market flooded with crappy ****.

You will always have someone disgreeing and that spoils it for all. And we would also have only 1 console to choose from demeaning our freedom of choice.

Nah, I wouldnt like it

The only problem would be no competition driving the price down - if we only had one company to buy goods from they could price it what ever they wanted. Ah the problem with a socialist utopia in a comercial world.
