The average game length these days is about 8-10 hours. There appears to be lots of opinions on forums and reviews stating this to be a short game. I actually prefer games to be this short, but with a variety of content, for example HL2.
I don't have as much spare time to play games these days and would be happy if games were even slightly shorter if the content was still varied.
I'd even be happy if some games could be completed in an evening, say 4 hours. With the same structure as a movie. We all watch some films over and over. It would be great if we could have games we'd like play repeated times.
So what I'm suggesting is short action packed games, great stories, but with longevity through...I don't know, mirror modes, adjusted crazy physics, different graphical styles, a different musical score. Not just different difficult modes.
Another thing games really do need is a 'recap' when you continue the game, not the same intro you see every time it's loaded, but a story so far. Sometimes it can be a 2 weeks before I get the chance to play a game and it would be great to have a '24' esc. "previously on Halo 2" in Cortana's voice for example.
