Well I've decided that when I get a new mobile phone within the next 2 months that I'll go for the iPhone 3G (black or white I'm not yet decided). I was wondering what apps you guys have downloaded because I know a few of you on here have them. Obviously I will download the CM Console Guide first ;) but I'm intrigued by all the many different apps out there on the store. I see a few good ones are free but which ones do you guys recommend I get?

with 100s of apps releasing - daily! - in 2 months time any recommendations now will be old hat then, apart from our Console Guide ;) that will still be fresh as a daisy.

Novelty apps tend to come and go while only the real helpful apps stick and stay on the device, well it does on mine anyway. The ones that stick on mine are:

eBay
Shazam
Last.fm
Facebook
IM+ Lite or eBuddy

I shall be getting the Facebook one without a doubt to keep the missus quiet for a few minute. Wi-Fi Finder is another one I looked at and thought it's certainty to put on it. Shazam is that thing which identifies music tracks I think. IM+ Lite I've just had a look on the app store and it's a must for me. I will have a look at the rest cheers Mant (Y).

Ones that adorne mine include:
TwitterFon

Facebook

IM+ (Managed to get the full version during a sale when it was 59p. Has an awesome Push feature which pushes any IM messages to an email account of your choice)

Remote (Ridiculously useful when I'm lazing on my bed away from my computer so I can change songs, videos or podcasts on iTunes through the app)

Wikipanion (Wikipedia essentially)

Last.FM

Flixster (Gives cinema listings, recent DVD listings, reviews of films etc)

Rolando (full version is well worth the price. It's a heck of a lot of fun and is damn tough)

CM Guide

Topple, SpaceDead Beef and TapDefense (all free games when I got them, not sure about now, all worth a look)

One of the apps my company has developed for Walkers Crips has released on the store. Its a free app and is a little racing game in the similar vain to mario kart. This is our first ever 3D game so tons learnt in the month it took to develop.

*cough* Shameless plug *cough* :D

I've had a look at some more of those apps and I think I'm going to like the iPhone.

Also news of Apple announcing iPhone OS 3.0

Apple have just announced a special event on March 17th, which will show off the latest version of the iPhone OS 3.0.

As well as showing of the new iPhone OS 3.0, Apple will be previewing a brand new version of the iPhone SDK, the live event will take place at 10am PST (1pm EST).

Apple are calling the event an ‘advance preview of what we are building’, so I doubt we will get to see the new iPhone OS 3.0 on our iPhones this month.

It will be interesting to see what the new iPhone OS 3.0 looks like, as well as the updated SDK, I wonder if Apple have a new iPhone planned to launch with the new iPhone OS 3.0? maybe the much rumoured iPhone Nano? after all we did see the launch of the iPhone 3G with the updated iPhone 2.0 software.

I was going to town today as well to price up the various deals for this but I might wait until next month now because if there is rumours of an updated iPhone then I want a look at that first to make sure I'm getting the best value for my moolah.

Can't beat a shameless plug, hey, at least its free :)

I think the next iPhone will be around June time, so not long if you want to wait that long, or to just capitalise on a good deal from the people selling off their 3Gs on ebay (no doubt ill be one of those)

With the iPhone fastly becoming a gaming platform (all but a bit more casual), they should be looking at a faster processor (the 2nd Gen Touch is 100Mhz faster and in our developments it really excels most of the time over the 1st Gen and 2nd Gen iPhones and 1st Gen Touch which run 100Mhz less), maybe better graphics chip and a better battery life or at least a swapable solution, as the device doesnt last long if your running 3d based apps for the length of a good gaming session.

iPhone 3.0 is purely the OS, but it could lead to an insight of the next iPhone Hardware. Roll on March 17th!

O2 are selling off their stock cheap at the moment to clear inventory for the release of the upgraded iPhone in a few months.

On my usual trawl of the net I found that they are releasing some old skool console emulators for the iPhone. Most are in beta stage at the moment but they look pretty decent. I have seen them for SNES/NES/PC Engine/Megadrive and a few others.

CM Guide Pro ... All you need ;)

The whole app experience is done via your iTunes account, so any purchase through your computer or iphone are all paid for via your iTunes account and any CCard associated with that account.

EDIT: Updated my post (#2) above with latest apps id recommend

r8 cheers so if i buy an app on my phone it wont go onto my £35 bill and add to it

Mant
20/Sep/09, 02:23 PM
that's correct.

All app costs will be separate to your phone bill unless you are downloading them outside the UK (over the data GPRS/3G/EDGE network, not WiFi), then you will also incur a data cost on your bill just by downloading the apps while on your phone.

Same applys for PAYG users as they wont have free data use like contract users do.

Just a heads up for all you Footie fans out there. There is now an Official Everton Football Club Guide out. Hot off the heals of the Arsenal guide (which we also could have done, but they decided to go with a bigger company, who have done a crap job at it :)).

http://a1.phobos.apple.com/us/r1000/017/Purple/23/ef/8e/mzl.exbavdvp.480x480-75.jpg

Cost: 59p
(Arsenals 2.99) :|

We'll have ones for Newcastle, Spurs and Leeds soon.

im getting a iphone for my next mobile, thing is ive been looking at the tariffs on 02 website and they dont seem to do one for texters, thats all i do on my phone pretty much apart from the net, i use like 60mins a month if that on phine calls, are they good at sorting out deals at 02 or do you just have to take what they have on offer?

Glitch100
21/Oct/09, 04:59 PM
Isn't there that new tariff? Top up £10 and get unlimited texts, and top up £15 and get Unlimited Web and Texts?

Mant
22/Oct/09, 05:47 AM
I'd wait and see what Vodafone and T-Mob/Orange do in the next month or two. The phone wont cost any different as Apple fix prices on all their hardware, so it will be up to the carrier tariffs and deals that will spark off a little bit of a pricing war, and just in time for the xmas buying season, so expect some good deals :)
