To even get an interview is half the battle, If I had known I would have given you some pointers. Most of the interview will already be covered in your initial application, they will just ask what YOU done in the given situation. How YOU solved a problem, how YOU dealt with a difficult decision etc. TEAM means nothing to them.

Always have 2 other examples that meet the same competancies as well, as if you hit all 1st time they will ask the same question but how you dealt with it in another situation.

Good Luck Anyways, but I am sure you dont need it ;)

I used to be in the civil service, worked temp for 6 months twice as an AA, the latter I was given AO about halfway through the contract. Was an ok job, AA's get ---- on all the time though.

From experience, AA's do twice as much work as anyone else in the civil service and get no credit.

There are some lazy ------- AA's there though, I had to cover for one and do her data entry work that she had put off over 4 months in one day. She got away with not working because she was friends with the HEO. Made me not want to work in the civil service ever again. But I guess that ---- happens in any organisation.

Yeh AA's get all the ----, but to be fair where i work none of it is technical. It's all skivi stuff!

interview went good i think. Seemed to answer every question without many follow-up questions by the interviewer (Y)

Should find out tomorrow :)

The higher up the laddder you go in the civil service the less work you actually seem to do. My EO position is different as I am a Decision Maker, I need to assess 15 to 20 claims per day and then write a report on why I am paying or not paying someone.

Can be quite tedious but you do get some cracking stories.

3 years on Saturday. I passed my EO promotion board when I had been in the job for just over 2 years. Sat on a waiting list for 10 months before a position came up in Social Fund. My friend who's leaving do I was at on Friday had passed the board and been sat on a wait list for 6 months as well.

Do you use RM? If so you should check that as soon as you get in work, it should tell you if you passed or not.

Here's hoping :)

Funny enough it was 3 years ago I worked there. Actually, I was a civil servant before both of you, as the first 6 months I did was the year before that.

Go me.

Well I found out.

Never got it :'(

Dne well and get some proper feedback on Monday but there were 8 specs that needed to be met. Passed 7 but only partially met the 8th :(

someone else passed all 8 so they got the job.

Not the end of the world though. Still only 20 and that was my first EO board. So i gained experience if anything (Y)

Cheers for the support guys :)

No doubt another thread will arise within the next few months :p

Hopefully anyway!

Shame, at 20 you would have done well to get the job. When I was working in the civil service the youngest I can think of was 27 who'd been working there for 5 years prior.

Glitch, AA is short for Administrative Assistant.

The ladder is usually...

AA - These are just helpers, do the post, data input, anything anyone wants done, AA's will do it. They will not be responsible for liaising with clients.

AO (Administrative Officer) - Liaise with clients, make some decisions, and these are also the first contact for clients mostly. They will deal with clients more than anyone else.

EO (Executive Officer) - Makes decisions, attend meetings etc. May speak to clients if needed. Oversees AA's duties and delegates the work to AA's and AO's.

HEO (Higher Executive Officer) - The people in charge of the EO's, they walk around the office floor sometimes, but most of the time they are cooped away behind their desk doing next to ---- all. Sometimes they will hold a meeting to discuss what's going on with each section.

etc

SEO is after that :p

ggod explantion flee.

Obviously it changes within the courts (depends what you do )

Yeh most of the other EO's are like 30 etc and onwards.
